When Breakfast was first launched in the Sophie/Jeremy era Asad Ahmed the former Reporting Scotland presenter (now BBC London News) was Moira's stand in on a Friday and her holiday cover. I think he only did the job for about a year, then we got the dreadful and thankfully now five bound Kate Sanderson

Those were the days. I also remember Jane Hill covering for Moira, seems odd now since shes been in the main chair lately.

Maybe News 24 should utilise regional presenters just as the ITVNC does?

they don't ever have male presenters doing the update/headlines bit. Have they ever? Wonder if that's a policy or just a coincidence. Does anyone know?

We also had Emma Howard for a while in between Asad and Kate.

Max Foster was on the bulletins a few months ago, the first male since Asad Ahmad. He is Breakfast's business reporter, he was quite good to, but he was only on a few times.

Thank you for that. I have seen Max doing the odd early shift (the five to six thirty slot) but obviously just missed it when he did the bulletins. He's very watchable.

And for some reason the weather is always done by a female presenter.

You're right! Carole Kirkwood IMO is unbeatable but if a man had to stand in there could be no other than the sexy Alex Deakin, surely?

Its either my vision was horrible, or for real, but I swear I saw Carrie Frais (BBC Sport reporter) on the ITV NC the other day!

Yes, she's been on the News Channel quite a lot in the past couple of weeks.

She had previously done a few shifts at ITV News back in the Spring.

She's freelance. As well as doing stuff for BBC Sport, she presents ITV London News occasionally, and I believe she has also presented on Sky News at some point.

Interesting to see ITN's Ben Ando did a report on the latest situation in Asia this morning. Is he a freelance journalist or has he moved to the BBC?

Latterly he has been working on Five News - he presented the final Five News Update from ITN on New Year's Eve.

Actually once Philip Avery did a Breakfast weather forecast at 6.15 back in early 2003. Helen Willets did replace him after that though. Philip seemed shocked and delighted to be presenting on Breakfast though
