He used to do The World at One on BBC Radio 4, as well as PM on Radio 4, and I think something early in the morning on Radio Five Live. I always assumed him to be a much older chap somehow.

I don't think Julian has ever done WatO or PM. He's been at Five Live since 1991, doing various shows, including Breakfast. He's been spotted doing a few HardTalks recently too.

Kate Sanderson is reportedly leaving the BBC for FIVE.
Sarah Campbell is favourite to take over from Kate (untill the possible liquidation of that position in early 2005)

That's not a report, that's a fact. It's was announced a few days ago.
Things you may not know:
Guto Harri is returning to Westminster from Rome in January. Jeremy Bowen will cover Rome for the next six months.
The Washington Correspondent, Tom Carver, is leaving BBC News, to take up a consultancy job in America.

Is he returning to the News 24 Chief Political Correspondent job, or is he going back to Westminster as just a normal Political Correspondent, as it was discussed here a few months ago that in effect Guto Harri would be giving up the News 24 Chief Political Correspondent position if he did his secondment in Rome?

He was also the launch presenter of BBC Three's "The News Show" the 1945-2000 15 minute news programme. Ben McCarthy took over presenting duties from Julian, and remained with the show when it became the 1900-1915 "Seven O'Clock News". Eddie Mair took over when it became a 30 minute show.
IMHO Julian looks a bit more comfortable at News 24 than he did on BBC Three. (At the time he was presenting BBC Three News it was at its "funkiest" I think - it is a bit more sober these days)

I don't know, is the short answer. There are other changes coming up at Millbank, though, because Jonathan Beale is going to Washington in the new year, as State Department Reporter.
