If anything I think this might work to News Internationals advantage. If they're willing to shut down the News of the World they might be just as willing to get rid of The Sun and The Times to get their hands on Sky, removing a major barrier and allowing them to keep Sky News. Plus the BSkyB share price dropping works in their favour too.

They're only dropping NOTW because they can just substitute it with The Sun and get a similar readership at a much lower cost.

Sky News would be the first to go as its loss making.

The sooner Murdoch and his poisonous company get out of Britain the better. What the News Corp achieved with Sky is completely overshadowed by his political interference and appauling behaviour in so called journalism. The News of the Screws was his paper through and through and is a perfect representation of what the company represents.

He has been BBC bashing since I can remember - nothing to do with wider choice and free speech and everything to do with making money.

In 2011 we have multi channels making Murdoch money, most of which goes to his coffers rather than into money making. Hence the multi channel TV buying 3 months worth of TV and repeating it endlessly.

The company did far more damage than good and the sooner we see the back of the NC ethos the better.

On that basis I presume you don't watch any Murdoch related programmes from America - such as anything from FOX, or anything to do with BSkyB - which they do own a lot of shares in and so on?

A lot of people bash Murdoch, but are quite happy to sit and consume Murdoch products - however directly or indirectly connected he is.

Of his papers though The Times is also loss making and The Sun undoubtedly tarnished by the current scandal - plus profits from the papers are tiny compared to BSkyB. Selling his remaining papers would be the best way to rescue the Murdoch reputation and would almost certainly get them what they want in terms of BSkyB, without having to sell Sky News.

Sadly I have to endure the occasional 20th Centuary Fox film but I don't watch the imported american tv tat he inflicts on the UK.

Skys subscriptions should be entirely ploughed into UK production and Jobs rather than taking the money to the US to have yet more recyled American dreams drivel.

(my bolding)

Do you realistically expect the UK, a medium-sized TV market, to be self-sufficient in terms of pay-TV content? You do know that pay-TV services in countries such as France, Germany, Italy, and Spain, also air plenty of US content (because it's both cost-effective and popular)?

But you need to remember that The Sun is (sadly) the most influential paper in the country. It's a great tool for Murdoch, and probably something he doesn't want to lose. The Times is just about News Internationals reputation, countering the tabloid approach of The Sun and NOTW.

Only thing worth reading in 'The Sun' is Frankie Boyle's column! (And that's saying something!)

Slightly off topic, but can I say how despicable Murdoch's people have been threatening certain politicians with damaging their private life, if they don't stop digging into News International affairs!

Close down News International full stop.

(Would love to drop SKY too, but no one else has the range of channels I want & I'm not going back to cable as it's more expensive, plus I got fed up with having to call them every fortnight as the bloody thing kept freezing!)

Personally I don't have a problem with the Murdoch entertainment companies, it is just the Murdoch political and journalistic tendencies I have no time for.

Nothing wrong with Fox, but everything wrong with Fox News.

I'm pretty much with you on that. It's easy to say the whole company must be corrupt at first instance, but very difficult to connect for example the producers of Glee with the News of the World Royal Correspondent.

I do think any inquiry needs to expand to The Sun and The Times (and the rest of the tabloids), and although one step removed considering so many News of the World exclusives had video content circulated around the press too questions have to be asked of Sky News too, although it would likely be only where they worked jointly with the News of the World to "investigate" a story that their might be an issue.
