The desk looks stereotypically French with the four chairs for guests. I was hoping for something more Franceinfo open plan.

Am I the only one who likes the mics on the tables in French news broadcasts? To me there's something about them that make the programme feel kind of press conferencey and a bit more important and urgent.

No, I like them too. They are probably a hangover from the old days when tie clip mics weren't easily available or even invented, but I have a real fondness for that look.

According to this news article, switching from lavalier microphones to wire microphones will also represent a yearly saving of €26000 (because of accus needed for lapel mics).

Aren't France 2's bulletins also getting a rebrand? And what about the bulletins on overseas territories 1re channels?

With having had a refresh last year; France 2 will probably give 13 Heures and 20 Heures a font change on things.

The desk looks neat. However if no one else is sitting in it I would remove the mics and chairs.

Edit #1 : Is there the possibility of being able to remove the “wing” bar height desks? I’m thinking of a situation like the CBS This Morning setup where the side tables can be removed. For example if you have two guests you could get in closer.

Edit #2 : Those shiny white floors are going to be stuffed up in no time. I understand it looks sharp in the beginning but as time where’s on it looses its shine. And you’ll be repainting the floors yearly.

According to Le Figaro, the entire set is flexible, including the desk itself, which can accommodate guests or be used as a simple two person traditional news desk. Some of the angles in the promotional shots seem to hint that the desk may be able to move around to create different backdrops, etc.

True. But they make rechargeable lavalier mid packs with swappable batteries. But I’m guessing they were reaching the end of their useful life or they are finding that spectrum isn’t going to be available. That’s the case that’s happening in the US now in some markets. The spectrum (600Mhz) that was primary used for wireless mics and other things was auctioned off and in 2020 is the deadline to vacate. However some of the new licenses have started rolling out new services causing interference.

Here's a timelapse of the new set being put together at the France 3 station in Picardy (Amiens) -- it's almost identical to the national set:
