I won't begin this topic with too-much waffle, but do you think the introduction of BBC News 24 and the ITV News Channel have had a positive or negative effect on the main network bulletins?

I'm not to sure of the answer myself but the case I look at is of Channel 4 News which seems to be going from strength to strength - and I think alot of this is due to the fact that they only have to concentrate on making the two bulletins for Channel 4.

Well with the ITV News Channel, the network (ITV1) bulletins are shown, so it all it really matters is whether you get a ticker & dog and you tune in via 103 or 525 (on Sky)...

I think so. The effectiveness of mainstream news has been damaged because of it. News channels do a good job, but mainstream news does not have the same effect it had with me.

I dont think its had a direct impact. News Channels are different in the way things are reported. A News bulletin on BBC One concentrates on what has happened and what is going to happen, where as a news channel like News 24 concentrates on what is happening now i.e. a news conference.
