Despite the occasional over-hyped elements, I consider that - overall - the news broadcasts from Olympic park were a success. Ok, there were quite a few technical glitches and perhaps a reduced digest of other news, but like many, I'm going to miss the coverage.
Thumbs up to the major broadcasters who participated. Maybe it was more special for us viewers overseas, as it really did bring us closer to Britain, somehow.
My best bits: the nighttime backdrop on BBC World News, the almost neon blue dazzling effect. Awesome visual. Plus the sofa based interviews with some of the winning athletes and athletes from yesteryear.
Worst bits: disappointing CNN anchor position and general coverage. Whilst some would say the BBC coverage was over the top, CNN seemed overly diluted.
My bronze medal: Reshmin Chowdhury of BBC News. Cool, calm and ever accurate on the sofa.
My silver medal: Jon Sopel for his quite authoritative commentary from inside the stadium. Fitted perfectly.
My gold medal: Naga Munchetty. She struck the right balance all the way through and delivered programming which captured the mood in an entertaining, lively, yet very "news" way.
Entire genuine coincidence that my 3 medals go to the BBC.
A super dooper BBC World News countdown coming tonight after the closing ceremony, according to a Tweeter. I wonder if it will be a special send-off countdown, piecing together images from all of the anchors who appeared from the Olympic studios over the last few weeks, including - perhaps - some of the behind the scenes lighter stuff????
Right now London is using World set for their news and Peter Dobbie and Sue Thearle had to move somewhere, not sure where exactly, background still looks similar and with glass. Could it be the space between World and News channel sets, usually used for weather?

Sport studio? (Studio D I think it's called - the one that just has a window and bar table and some stools. The one at the top of the page with Anita in it)

Hurrah.
BBC News channel have been doing a similar thing... all week!
Why do you think the national news set didn't work?
Poor sound, poor lighting balance and mediocre camerawork. Not all the time admittedly although enough to be really embarrassing for an event that has been 7 years in preparation. There is no excuse for some of what was transmitted. Its not like it was an event that wasn't recce'd....although a lot of the time thats exactly what it did look and sound like.
BTW, I am commenting on the news element and not the sport contribution.
I thought the BBC national news studio (I won't say set as there wasn't really one) was great. The view was great and I especially liked the dual angles for Olympic and non-Olympic news. Apart from the first day it didn't seem too bad technically either.
A shame they're all off to Broadcasting House, they should stay in Stratford!
