Surely the only issue is that they've moved too soon, I think domestic news probably can excuse itself for being there but is there any need for BBC World to be there before friday?

I think its pretty obvious why BBC World News have moved now... its because it gives them a five-day lead in where they can go Olympics-mad. After all, they are the embodiment of the BBC and Great Britain for many millions of people the world over.

Not only are they broadcasting their 'London Live' segments, but I've seen a few different packages where WN presenters were sent out to look at specific sports - much in the style of Mike Bushell's occasional films - The Lucy Hockings Volleyball one was particulary amusing, and Ros Atkins Kayaking. They have also sent their correspondents out to film special editions of Extra Time - Rob Bonnet is interviewing Sir Steve Redgrave right now on air, i saw another edition last night where David Willis interviewed an american Basketball player.

In contrast, BBC Domestic just seem to be... there... they don't appear to be making any effort to go to the same lengths as World News to push the event, and this is likely because they don't have as many viewers to begin with, and most of those viewers will have 24 live channels to watch the olympics, something the rest of the world probably wont have.

From today until the end of the games, Sky Sports News will be broadcasting 'all day, every day' from their Olympic studio.

Yes and they've already established themselves as the home of the Olympics for the international viewer instead of their rivals. Of course those abroad will watch local coverage for the sport despite it maybe not being in English, but they'll turn to BBC World for Olympic news

Yep, BBC1 and 3 will be there so I suppose News doesn't need to be

They've invested in covering it and BBC World is part of the BBC even if they are not showing the actual games live (they will show highlights).

They'll have very brief highlights. The rules about what non rights holders (and BBC World are a non-rights holder) can show are quite complicated. Basically it's a few minutes of action, a few times a day, but not until the day after (to make sure all the rights holders have shown it).

So if something happens at 10am, it'll be at least 13 hours until World can show it

Not sure if this has been posted in another thread but a behind the scenes of the BBC World News studio at Lund Point from Lucy Hockings

Very interesting, thanks. There's a lot more there than I thought, I assume it was just a contribution studio feeding into the existing gallery. Odd to think they're all in someone's old flat!

I also saw a Katya Adler package from the Olympic Park which was surprisingly light for her.

^ Also the countdown include Big Komla weightlifting, Karin Giannone doing something in a gym and even Katy Kay fencing. Haven't seen those reports on tv yet, maybe I missed them.

They have been used, I mentioned it in the World News thread 3 days back. Wink

I think the BBC news and sports studios are looking rather impressive, and when the flame is (in my prediction) burning from the top of the ArcelorMittal Orbit Tower the backdrop will look great hopefully.

I think Sky Sports News has nailed it nicely - no stupid framing for that ugly sculpture outside, no excessive head room - no glares, and they have got the focus spot on with the background slightly blured.

I suppose it helps them too with there backwards L graphic which helps bring a bit of colour to what is a dull coloured background.

Although they seem to be suffering the heat too, guest just now in floods of sweats.

Here's some video of where the BBC News channel and BBC World News are broadcasting from, showing a few bits of the studios...

Are you kiding? I must be imagining all those hideous dodgy white tents and storage units then Very Happy I don't like the orbit but it's a damn sight better than that water polo venue which blocks a big chunk of Sky's stadium view and thats before taking into account that Sky's main view is of a storage yard.
There is no comparison with it and the BBC's view which captures the city of London and park beautifully.
