For the life of me I don't understand why World are broadcasting from the Olympic studio nearly all the time and the Domestic News channel, to whom the main UK viewers are going to want to watch, are not. Or is this the News channel wanting to be typically high-brow.

Isn't it because BBC World is the only outlet for the BBC to give the rest of the world any Olympic coverage, whilst BBC domestically has many other outlets which are doing the same?

I'm wondering if they will be live from the Olympic studio for most of the time on Friday.

Come to think of it, they would need to cross back to N6 at 12:30, 5:30 and 9:30 for the National News to rehearse.

Looking at the grabs from tonight, I'm even more dumb founded as to why this sherade is going on, the view is pretty lame - some blue neon lights to the right side from the stadium and then the the lights of the suburbs to the left.

What is it bringing to any news story, nothing to anything non-Olympics related and not much more to anything that is related.

Does it detract from any story?

For BBC World it's the culmination of their 'London Calling' season which has been running for the last few months. I suspect also the idea is that the Olympics is happening in the BBC's patch but World won't be able to show any of it so they have to 'own' the Olympics somehow.

I've been watching it on and off for the last 2 days and it's been great so far

I think that world news should broadcast from Olympic studio the majority of the times, like pointed out. It's the biggest event happening at the moment, and is going dominate the news, but there's no reason why they can't broadcast other news stories from the Olympic studio, that like saying you can only have sports news in the sport centre.

I'm watching BBC News now (on BBC2) and didn't even notice that, but does it relly matter? Who cares?

This is the biggest event happening in the UK at the moment and the world will be watching. Being a host broadcaster as in BBC it feels like it's the entire BBC outlet TV/RADIO/ONLINE Olympics. They've invested in covering it and BBC World is part of the BBC even if they are not showing the actual games live (they will show highlights). They have the crew, resources, and money and it's in their own backyard. I'm show if others was in the BBC's position they'll out muscle any other broadcaster who came to cover it.
I wasn't into TV news during the Atlanta games but I'm show CNN and CNNI made show to tell you this was their home Olympics even though CNN wasn't the official broadcaster.
Imagine if BBC WORLD pretended like the games are just another 'news' to cover from the UK and do the minimum coverage of just sport updates everyone will be up in arms and see it as BBC WORLD failing to capitalize on the resources they have in London.
I love the coverage so far. Well done.

For Global tv viewers, BBC World IS Great Britain.

Surely the only issue is that they've moved too soon, I think domestic news probably can excuse itself for being there but is there any need for BBC World to be there before friday?
