A fanatic leading the hunt to get this journalist - hardly.
I mean there are mistakes and then there are mistakes. The scale of this one caught my attention. I'll await any further developments with interest.

What's that? The post above is not what I've posted!

Not sure how the heck that happened, but the contents of it is a post I made in the CiTV & MoM thread. Hopefully a mod can come along with a dustpan and brush and sweep up the mess.

Yes, help of a moderator would be appreciated as I can neither edit nor delete the post.

Nasty for stating what a naive piece of investigative journalism that was ?

It's hardly investigative to get a statement from a representitve of the company.

And yes I agree with Dog you are on a witchhunt. Just put the Daily Mail away and calm down why don't you.

The only mistakes I've seen on n24 recently are graphic related one's.

There was one the other day at 2pm, I just tuned in before TOTH to catch the headlines and the Signer appeared bottom right - which I couldn't understand because it's usually signed at 1 and not 2. Then on the second headline there was pictures on the screen of something hunting related then the headline bed and VT stopped and there was total silence as the signer kept signing then stopped. The VT then started again in silence and continue. Around a minute later the signer disappeared and it was cut back to the studio with the end of the title music fading out and Tim Wilcox (i think) continueing as if nothing had happened. Although he was shown on-screen as something to do with Iraq as the astons flew in and out until it hit the correct one.

Well, BBC News is not beyond making mistakes - and they've made a pretty big one today, although I don't think it aired in the UK. BBC World screened an interview with a man claiming to apologise for the tragedy at Bohpal on behalf of his company - but this bloke had nothing to do with the company involved!

That is just terrible to get fooled by some hoaxer, no excuses .
I 've searched but can't find the name of the journalist who did the interview and reported the story.
Anybody know who it was?

Stephen Cole interviewed the hoaxer live at 0915 GMT on BBC WORLD. The interview was played just after 0930 GMT on BBC NEWS 24. Both channels then aired the interview in full after 1000.

Then at 1100 Stephen Cole made an apology on BBC WORLD and this was similarly announced on BBC NEWS 24.

The group behind the hoax have outlined their stunt in a blog-type thing on this site. It has a couple of screenshots of BBC World.

From what I understand from the information on the above site (if indeed it can be trusted), the BBC actually asked the activists to return later and explain their cause and put across their point of view. Seems very fair indeed.

Well there was a big mistake for the 4:30pm weather bulliten. I think that two takes where made, and the wrong one was shown. Laughing

These lines from the Yes Men's site are very interesting:

Another problem we anticipate is that this could result in some backlash for the BBC. This is bothersome, because they have covered Bhopal very well, infinitely better than what we're used to in the US. We would much rather hoax CBS, ABC, NBC, or Fox, but none of those could give that rat's ass about Bhopal, and so none of those has approached us.

Intelligent people will not question the excellence of BBC's overall coverage because of an unavoidable mistake, especially if it is caught quickly and provides for some interesting discussion that wouldn't have happened otherwise.

Yes the activist was actually on BBC Three News that evening explaining how they did it and why and whether other campaign groups may use this a way of getting a point across.
