I meant she's very at ease. She suits the national forecast, it would be great if it becomes a regular gig for her

She's just done the national forecast on BBC One.

Alina's Twitter profile is now "presenter and producer for BBC Weather"

Looks like we have one new presenter now. I wonder what training new presenters will receive. Haven't they historically been trained Meteorologists or I undergone specific training with the Met Office?

Alina took over from me on South Today in 2002. I was involved in giving her meteorological training during her time at South Today and later when I moved to the Met Office College. I think she is a fantastic weather presenter and I wish she would come back to South Today permanently.

I like Alina. I've been watching South Today for 40 years and remember the days of Keith Best, Ted Young and Baz Watkiss. There've been a few over the years who have gone on to national forecasting: Martyn Davies, Tomasz S., Chris Fawkes, Liam Dutton among them. Alina is the latest of those.
Whatever happened to Dorcas Henry, Mike Powell and Georgie Palmer?
I actually applied to the Met Office for a scientific job 25+ years ago.

Straight out of university (around 98/99) when I was applying for anything vaguely TV related... I applied and boarded/screen-tested for a weather presenter role on South Today.

Thankfully, for all concerned, I didn't get it. I never did find out who did, as I'd left the south of England by that stage.

Dorcas Henry remarried and is working as a lecturer at Warsash Maritime Academy (Southampton Solent University). Mike Powell does a number of radio news reading roles including on Classic FM (Global). I believe Georgie Palmer left when she had a baby...no idea what she is doing now.

Just more reasons why I consider the Express a deplorable newspaper...

And we still don't know the exact date on which the new look will be launched, do we?

Back on 15 August, Bill Rogers said on his blog that there were around four weeks to go. Well, it's nearly four weeks now - so if it won't be launched this week, then maybe next week?

I do wonder if the Beeb are trying to keep it as quiet and low-key as possible, following the negative publicity surrounding their last big revamp of the weather...

Bloody hell, I knew the Express was obsessed by the weather but I didn't know they were obsessed by weather presenters too.

As clickbait goes, that's just appalling
