why are the BBC testing this system out to regions, they should install Virtz in N6 first, then pass it on to regions!

Because as they test out the system, and all the mistakes that might happen, will be more forgivable on Regional news, than on the National.

i dont see any problems on News 24

Don't you? The way it has to do two wipes to get all the characters (as described above), the way the breaking news sting rarely works properly (no music, music wrong or as if its in fast-forward mode), long absences of the ticker...

i dont see any problems on News 24 and World looks stable to me, what can possibly go wrong other then human error.

Well each of the graphics staff from those regions and nations will need time to adjust to it, as it is an integrated system, it will need to be synced with their news systems.

I don't see why regions should take priority, they should put it on N6, all they use it for is basic astons, they won't need a ticker or the information graphic for that matter, I am sure the system is robust enough for N6 to use, the locals can stick to their antiquated astons for now Wink

I think there's some confusion here as to who is ordering Vizrt and what it does. Vizrt isn't just a lower thirds system or 'aston' generator, it's a full blown graphical design system. The regions aren't getting it just to make new astons. Also the regional roll-out is not directly controlled by BBC News. The regional Vizrt roll out is by English regions and the nations aren't necessarily involved, although BBC Scotland will have Vizrt at its new HQ.

Here's an example of what it's capable off, BBC News haven't exactly used it to its potential in the astons department have they!

Anyway which system have the BBC bought is it Vizrt Artist + Trio?

Astons are just the first part of the roll out of Vizrt.

Look out for when a pound sign is at the start of a description of a news story. That's one fault off the top of my head.
(the first letter of each of the proceeding words do not animate in, they just appear)

Just a word of caution.

News 24 and World have VizRT HARDWARE and software for their lower thirds and tickers.

The post about the regions talks about Software.

It could be that the regions are using Viz software to do stuff like maps, boxed stills etc. not text straps.

Just because two areas are using Viz - doesn't mean they are using it for the same thing.

But it is about time for a change at the regional departments, and surely the BBC know that. So, clearly if it was you wouldn't you go all out and get the lot?

... because the bbc is swimming with cash at the moment isn't it. i can't, for one moment, imagine why the bbc wouldnt have animating name astons on regional news programmes as an absolute priority. its not as if there have been redundancies in the regions and a licence fee settlement that suggests that a little belt tightening might be in order.

How is Vizrt said in Tv land? Is it Vizert?

I presume these are the people that have been responsible for the Eurovision Song Contest graphics for the last few years.
