Digital Spy reports here that Vizrt graphics playout systems will be introduced to the BBC regional news teams throughout 2007.

The article states:

BBC London is also piloting Vizrt software on behalf of regional stations and will be conducting a soft launch later this month. The roll-out continues during 2007. The framework agreement is designed to facilitate purchasing from a tested and approved supplier and although created primarily for News departments throughout the country, any department or region can take advantage of it.

Spiffing.

There are lots of training going on with graphic systems within BBC Birmingham at the moment. So expect something new there soon too.

If they are all moving to Vizrt, then couldnt News 24 just pass on the templates and bring a consistant, or semi consistant look with News 24 and the Nationals...

There was an article on MediaGuardian ages ago reporting that BBC News were working to standardise the look of on-screen graphics across all outlets, so I'd guess that's the plan.

When BBC television news output first went "generic" in 1999/2000, "astons" etc were very standardised indeed, but eventually fell apart (esp. in regional news), to become the current mish-mash.

I'm glad that they're gonna try and standardise it all again, but the cynic in me doubts that it will last many years before falling apart again.

Realistically, I'd expect the standard two-line black supers with the programme name e.g. Midlands Today, BBC LONDON etc to be animating in the feature box towards the left edge. That would certainly maintain the standardisation of the current look across all outlets, while allowing each programme to have its own distinctions.

well the national news could have used the standard News 24 graphics, but they chose not to - is this down the the graphics playout system, or just a choice.

I dont think BBC London will give up it's diagonal stripe motief...

I have no evidence either way, but I'm not convinced that N6 is yet equipped with Vizrt. The graphics revisions on the Nationals don't seem substantial enough to be using the capabilities of Vizrt - they're still using that pretty weak wipe effect as the only animation, and that was present under the last graphics set.

N6 does not yet have Viz; thus, is not yet using N24 style animation or design...
