To mark the News at Ten's 50th birthday, I thought I might share something that I acquired a while back. Obviously ITN music can't be uploaded due to most of it being library music - but I thought you all might like to hear the original voice over recording session for the NAT revamp in 1992.

The above file is 20 minutes long and contains all the various takes that were recorded - and gives you an idea about how these things are done.

Enjoy!

That's brilliant. 'From the jolly nice headquarters of ITN' wouldn't have been quite as authoritative.

That's amazing! Always been fascinated by voiceover work. Thank you for posting it.

There's one for Jon Snow in there - he was pretty much full-time on C4 by then, wasn't he?

You're welcome - I find voiceover recordings strangley fascinating - I'm such an anorak!

Yes Jon Snow was almost exclusively Channel 4 News at that point. However, I don't think it was until 1993 or so that ITN stopped sharing presenters between ITV and C4. Jon Snow had presented Election '92 for ITV in the April so I guess they decided to include a VO for him for NAT.

My favourite was the cheesy game show piss-take one.

I get the feeling there didn't know who was going to get the job at that point in time. Mind you I can't actually remember if Carol did the NaT during this era. Alister left to go to LNN.

Just to add that the Washington ones at the end were added later - these were recorded for Trevor's trip to Washington to interview President Clinton in July 1993.

One of them was also used later for the 1996 US election:

I may be mis-remembering but I'm sure I have seen a screengrab of Carol in the 1992- set.

Yes, Alastair only just managed to get a VO for NAT - he left for LNN just a couple of months later!
