I would not want full corporate branding - would be a waste...part branding would be good though - a bit of integration never hurt anyone.
Would you not want ST to have it's own branding that stated what the prog was about, who it was aimed at. Showing it's part of a culture that is unique as it's viewers...no hang on,you are right - SMG are incapable of providing anything that does not look or sound cheap!!! I still cringe at their RGB spinning discs from the 90's - yuk!
True....come to think of it what was the last gud thing itv plc designed??????
The generic ITV studios? I might be alone in this but I think they look quite cool, and their versatility is very nice.
North Tonight was broadcast from the main studio tonight...yet I wouldn't read too much into that.
Claire Stewart presenting tonight - she's very good.
Well I suppose Grampian could re do the North Tonight set and not have to move out of the studio? When they moved to the ‘Tin Hut’ from Queens Cross they down sized to a single studio (nearly as small as my lounge) but they have 2 sets in there…..the North Tonight one and a Politics Now Set!
So I guess they could use the PN space (they will need a new PN set anyway as when it comes from Glasgow they use the Scotland Today set?!?!?!

i never knew pn came from aberdeen......
Well there you go.....Politics Now is split between Glasgow and Aberdeen. I must admit it is quite clever you have to look close to tell. The Aberdeen set is a wee bit smaller.
When Platform and Crossfire stopped PN was born but the agreement was each station would produce half of the shows (Grampian has the edge.....3 or 4 more shows a yeear than STV!!)

Barney you are spot on with your thoughts on North Tonight's set. The PN part of the studio may well be spruced up at the moment.
As for Jaime's thoughts, well I agree. While I am extremely reluctant to wish SMG stations to become part of the ITV brand, the new studios are rather snazzy. The only thing is they have absolutely NO identity with this uniform design. Yet nobody stamped their feet when the Beeb did this in 1999 with all regional and national sets.
If they do revamp ST and indeed NT, it'll be interested to see if they opt for a sofa and coffee table look. They may decide on a proper newsdesk.
Mind you - I'll laugh (perhaps cry) if they have the same sets this time next week!

Chances are it'll probably suit grampian better as the stv studio - if it goes corporate bear in mind - will double up as a part time PN set too which may mean 2 corporate sets for grampian unless the show moves to aberdeen full-time..
Yeah...Grampian would benefit from any revamp of SMG programming. If the PN part of the studio needs to be "redone" to match the Glasgow set, then it would make sense to update the whole studio. Lets face it, NT was ony given a TINY revamp in 2003.
They hardly revamped the show when they relocated. The titles are worse since they moved, as I liked when the map of Scotland turned on its head. All you get now is the three blocks moving in a pointless way (sorry I am a graphics geek) then North Tonight appears - hardly startling. The main ITV corporate look is far better!
Back to the main point though; once Scottish TV relocate they will have a new set, but perhaps they'll just tinker with titles etc.
It only makes sense to revamp NT, especially when a split in coverage has been promised soon. How will they decide on the split?
Grampian; Highlands and Islands/Moray/Aberdeenshire/Aberdeen City for the North region - Perthshire/Angus/Dundee City for the South region?
Scottish; Argyll/Clyde Coast/Lanarkshire/Glasgow for the West region Forth Valley/Lothians/Fife for the East region?
