I can understand her decision, and I think it was a very nice thing to do. Considering her pregnancy - she would have been immune from lay offs.

If her husband is in London it is only natural she wants to be with him!

What about John Mackay? As for Louise; she is what the term an "all rounder" and has vast experience both in front and behind the camera. Although, I would have prefered to have kept Sarah than Louise!

No i dont think John will get the boot or take the hint and go...I think its more than likely to be the jr reporters and presenters such as debbie edwards or even ewan petrie.

Okay, I have to admit I cannot recall Ewan and Debbie. Perhaps, they started after I moved up to Keith.

Glad you think that John will weather the storm. I hope that John and Shereen remain the main presenters at six. Louise and Stephen may be good for breakfast updates, and as stand ins.

Well everybody seems to have had a go at this “refresh” however are forgetting 1 thing. STV have no problem bringing in a new set and letting it run for a few weeks, then making some minor alterations – as in previous sets.

I have a few issues –

The opening/closing “high” shots make the set look cramp. Particularly with the lights and camera in the shot.

End shot, dimming the lights - the studio hasn’t the incidental lighting that allows this to work. It’s just to damn dark in the closing shot.

The colours of the graphics – Make a decision! Is it red, blue, orange or purple???

I know they all try very hard under the financial situation, but it looks like whoever “designed” this set and graphics is colour blind. It’s all a bit of a mish-mash!!

But I love the music!

Well I hope someone is going to the B&Q Warehouse at Drumchapel this weekend. We may have some more samples of the Dulux wallchart? I would however opt for a chain saw to get rid of that grid like thing that is going on in the background, some cheapo office chairs from Argos (they are rather reasonably priced) If Raman behaves - I'd let him sit down as well (on his own seat - not on Shereen's knee!)

Perhaps Scotland Today will become sponsored by Dulux? or Benches are Us?

I don't agree! I think a some of the Jr Reporters & Presenters will go but I also think some of the big names may bite the dust too!

Look at Angus Simpson, a very popular newscaster, contract not renewed becuase of his wages.

I think the wage bill may come into the factor and if Sarah didn't announce today that she was going I think Shereen may have been the one to go!

From what I've heard from people in the know, this revamp has been small because the budget wasn't available to make a bigger change, hence the compromise on the set. Even with the new titles (which I think are fab) you can see elements of the old graphics being reused in there.
As has been pointed out already it doesn't make any sense to do anything big and expensive until the summer move to pacific quay (although I would keep the music if I were them).

As for job losses, there are no names yet because the final names won't come out until February (Scotsman Article). First are the voluntary redundancies and then there will presumably be a process to work out who loses their job. The newsroom seems to have specific areas set out for redundancies. So even if Sarah Heaney is taking voluntary redundancy then that still means two more presenters are to go. The junior reporters are actually production journalists and it sounds as if they are unaffected by this.

Shereen and John on tonight.

Did anyone spot the mistake? The strap that was used for the "in brief " round-up was from the old Purple graphics and not the new red ones!

Laughing

I also had a chuckle at nearly all the live reports coming from STV Towers. Someone must think Caledonian University is a fantastic backdrop!

I just don't get why they do this...

"To our report now, Mike Edwards, who is in Glasgow."
HELLO!! you are sitting about 40"feet below him, in the studio!!!

So where is Scotland Today presented from, if it's not Edinburgh or Glasgow ( cos they would say - to our report now, Mike Edwards, who is on the roof here in Glasgow - would they not Wink

Yeap - that it so annoying. Lets hope that is ditched soon! Looking forward to hearing more news on the move to Pacific Quay. I wonder what names will appear on the casualty list in February.
