I grew up in Kent - is he the comedian that was on invicta FM a fair bit?

Close. (not to be confused with DLT) He is a comedian. He used to be on what was Invicta Supergold, until it was bought by London's Capital Radio and became Capital Gold in 1997.

He is now well-known for his Celebrity Golf Classic!

Do we have an ETA on the first South East Today with Geoff? Has Giles Dilnott already left? John Young seems to be presenting rather a lot lately.

Giles Dilnot is still about, he presented the lunchtime bulletin and the evening show yesterday.

Talked to one of the Meridian Tonight reporters just before the announcement of Geoff Clark's defection, and I got the distinct impression that morale is very low at Meridian South East.

That doesn't surprise me. TVS Coast-to-Coast and Meridian South East were both really well produced, confident shows. Both programmes were popular in the region - and gave London Plus, Newsroom South East and now South East Today a really tough bit of competition.

Historically they've had a strong presenter line-up (Mike Debens, Anna Maria-Ashe, Liz Wickham, Kate Garraway, Geoff Clarke, Natasha Kaplinsky etc.) and a really strong show.

With the move to Fareham, and regional presentation, along with the inevitable job losses and new technology (usually meaning more multi-skilling, more stress, and poorer editorial and technical standards) the future doesn't look that bright.

It is such a shame.

I know that logically it doesn't matter where the presenters of a show are sitting when they read the news (Anglia West and South Today Oxford have never had "in-region" presentation) I think that it DOES make a difference for those working on the programme in the region. Just being in the same building as a studio, and being able to chat to the presenters and studio crew, does make a real difference.

So, does anyone have any ideas on who's going to replace Geoff at Meridian South-East?

David 'Mr Personality' Glencorse was filling his shoes for a while. At the moment everyone's favourite fill-in Glenn Tompsett is doing the honours. Cool

Seen a trailer this morning for Geoff's first edition of South East Today which is tonight!

Hopefully his wit & charm can work wonders on the programme. Anyone know what Giles Dilnott will be doing?

Saw Geoff tonight. Seems to be fitting in well. Weird seeing him in a BBC studio at the moment, but good move none-the less - better pay! Razz

Don't know whats happened to Giles. Maybe he could replace Geoff at Meridian - Glenn Tompsett is annoying me. He's too tall and his voice is too projective! Mad

Isn't Giles to move back to reporting?
