BBC South East Today is getting a new presenter. They've poached Geoff Clark.

Very interesting. Can't blame him for not being enthusiastic about the prospect of Meridian south-east being presented from Hampshire.

Its a shame he's leaving Meridian. I remember when he presented the Meridian Sports section back in 1993, before becoming a full-time replacement for Mike Debens in 1997.

Mind you, with Fred Dineage still anchoring ITV South for nearly 40 years, probably best time for Geoff to leave!

Well, I look forward to hearing "This Is BBC One in the South East. Now the 1 O'Clock news with Anna Ford and Geoff Clark."

Only 20 years anchoring, before that he did the sports presenting.

Media Guardian has caught up with the news:

However:

Media Guardian posted:
Clark has worked for Meridian since it took over the ITV south coast licence from TVS in January 2003.

My Grandma loves him, and she only watches Meridian 'as it's more local'..

Well BBC South East Today needed to do something drastic to make it a bit more watchable and Geoff's on-screen presence will certainly do that! I wondered whether he would move to Fareham as he lives in Southend (I think) and that's a fair way to commute each day!

I wonder who will take over his role on Meridian Tonight?

By coincidence, Laurie Mayer's employment appeal tribunal takes place this Friday.

He does indeed live in Southend. Or Westcliff/Leigh area anyway. Used to know his son.

Chances are that they've sent him off on gardening leave. Not in Meridians interest to have their presenter working for them after announcing that he's soon off to the rivals
