Watched 'The World' for the first time today and I don't know if it is usually in the same format but it struck me as a more intellectual programme, sort of like a global programme in the same vein as Newsnight. Is Zeinab Badawi (that's the name you were looking for tactical voter) a regular presenter?
Also, with the election of a 78 year old Pope, do you think that the news organisations will be planning the coverage for Benedict XVI's eventual death yet?

bbc.co.uk were streaming BBC WORLD coverage (as opposed to bbc news branded coverage that appears on world too) with Brian Hanrahan, until 8 (presumably from 7pm), leading into The World. Between the end of Brian Hanrahan and the start of The World, we got lovely shots of the host (can't recall name, same lady who interviewed Frank Gardener for Hardtalk) doing her makeup and checking it was ok. They eventually cut the audio, and moved to a still of the chimney (the stillness could have been my connection)...the lengths they go to stop us seeing adverts...

Regular-ish. Kirsty Lang (like Zeinab, ex-Channel 4 News) is the main presenter. Brian Hanrahan and others also pop up from time to time.

Apparently Benedict is the Saint of Europe and Ratzinger is clearly committed to returning "traditional" values to Catholics.
And secondly I thought the College of Cardinals were keen to have the new Pope resign at 80, so thats a grand total of, oh, 2 years.
The World on BBC 4 has been outstanding tonight, far better than the usual programme.

The main thing that strikes me - apart from this process will probably be repeated sooner rather than later - is that the new Pope gets to choose a name - and he chooses Benedict!

That's a bit high-brow for Fox News isn't it? I doubt that most of their viewers have a sound grasp of English, let alone Latin...

bbc.co.uk would have been taking a feed directly from the world studio. What you saw was the output of the studio while it wasn't on air. Presenter setting up, rehearsing headlines etc. The still of the chimney would have been the first shot in the headlines.

...I would pay millions for a picture of Zeinab Badawi doing her make-up...
