Central News.... sorry.... ITV News Central is way way better than Midlands Today right now. The chemistry between Nick and Mary/Joanne is non existent and very stilted.

I love Central's more informal approach and I really like Matt Teale and the fact he has an ounce of personality. Bob's a trooper and would be a very sore loss if he retired. He and Meridian's Fred are the relics of old school ITV and they both are still very competent. Sameena I don't really care for, she's ok but not as strong as the rest. They could do with some bold females once again at Central like Llewella Bailey for example.

And as much as I highly rate Wesley after having him as the main presenter for 18 years, He is more suited for less urban regions with mostly lighter new stories like when he presented for Channel earlier in the year. That said if he did come back to Central full time I would be very happy!

I know he's a local hero but Bob Warman really should consider retirement mumbling and stumbing through the links and looking totally dis-interested.
.

I'd hope as a news presenter for ITV, he is disinterested.

Hmm, in terms of NEWS, Midlands Today win it for me. I like to know what's going on near where I live, not near Skegness. When someone was killed at the top of my road Midlands Today did a 6 minute item on it which told me everything I wanted to know - Central did a roundup item on it just saying somebody had been killed as they were too busy talking about a cat being stuck up a tree in Derby...

It has been a pleasure to see Wesley present the weekend bulletins this weekend. I especially liked his closing line tonight - I hope to be with you again soon.

I noticed his closing comment too. Always comes across as a nice guy and of course a fellow TV presentation enthusiast too. I always thought his natural home after Bob retires would be to replace him on Central News.

No Central News on Daybreak just.

Granada broadcast instead.

Late presenter or problem at studio?

Granada seemed to know there was a problem, as Central was name checked at least.

Sorry for dirtying this thread with tales from the East but East Midlands Today now have the images on the titles in colour. I think this is a change as of today. The transitions and animations also appear to be slower and the text looks a bit dodgy. But overall a rather pleasing change from all the usual grey images.

Happened a week ago. The text (place names) do look a bit odd, compared to the rest of BBC News.

Thanks, now we'll stamp your passport and stick you back on the next CrossCountry train back East.
(Didn't we have a dedicated EMT/CNE thread once?)

Quite a few years ago there was one, but it was hijacked by someone who thought Coventry was in the East Midlands and was obsessed with Marie Ashby I seem to recall.

Now I never thought I would pine for those days.

MDR and Wrekin Havoc made for compelling reading.

The thing is, back then CNE had much superior presentation. CNW just looked tacky.

Compare:

(CNE 2003 once they'd got rid of all that "East Midands' Number 1" rivalry with EMT)

with...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aQtu4hmaNtE 2002: yuck

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rj7Wt1FnUlA 2003: even worse

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jho5rU3WveQ 2004: it all went corporate

ITV did Central News West a favour!
