Well, Meridian South are certainly making a point of showing us just how wonderful these new studios are, especially by saying that "it cost millions of pounds" and "hundreds of people work there now". True as both statements may be, they're both dodging the point a bit!

Well, we've had our first Meridian Tonight from the new set, and I must say I do like it. Though you can tell that the room is very small compared to what they're used to. One of the most impressive things is how they have the sports presenter in front of the brightly-lit strips on the wall, it looks very classy.

Fred was having some very "Fred" moments tonight, which I found entertaining (though my sister found cringeworthy). My mother made a point when Fred said that they were going to be showing us their new "home" - she thought it was probably going to be a retirement home for him by now! I hope he sticks around for as long as possible before he retires, and the same applies to Debbie.

Here in Meridian north (?) they said it was the most advanced in the world!!

Saw Meridian Tonight Today, I must say I like the studio, it looks more crisp than, Central News and London Tonight even though it is basically the same. IMO they have the best Astons package than anywhere in ITV News at the mo, thou some of the text on a few captions was a bit too small particullarly the sports round up astons.
Picture quailty is very crisp.
Why the use of the old Meridian logo then a very Huge new one in the weather sponsers stings?

Is it a purpose built building or a building shared withn other companies like the forum for BBC East?

It's the top floor of an existing building on an industrial park.

nothing much!
They have used the background form the old set and put it on a framed backdrop.
Some camera shots with the presenter look as it they are back in the Northam set albeit for the Astons, the colours look quite sharp and the presenter looks bigger on screen, because the set is a bit more compact.
Still looks good though.
I gather it is another Jago design like London Tonight?

The main difference from Central West and London Tonight is the lack of laptops on the desk

Eeek - cheap studio install by the look of it. The cameras are on cheap Pro-Peds rather than decent studio peds... Suppose they are unlikely to do anything interesting that would require a decent ped...

As for the sofa - is it me or does it look a bit snug - with the presenters a bit close to the edges - something doesn't look quite right. It all looks a bit small compared to the London Tonight version.

Out of interest are the three studios and galleries all in a row ? Does anyone know if they can do clever things like re-patch the studios into different galleries etc. (Might be useful for pan regional stuff)

The opening sponsorship sequence to the weather still featured the Meridian logo, but when the end sequence came on, it had been covered up by an obviously hastily-added "ITV Meridian" logo (cheeky *******, lol)

Am i right in thinking you really can see the bottom and top of the old logo underneath?
