Brilliant News set, of what we have seen. Looks like Central got the raw deal out of it, as the rest have better lighting. But why the still image on the screen behind? or are they waiting until Monday to reveal that?
Hopefully we're not going to get that blue box background all the time on the monitors behind the presenter. It's a bit boring looking. And I hope the set is bigger than London Tonight's. It's almost hilarious when Katie passes to Alistair for a newswrap and he's standing at a monitor a whole ten centimetres away from her. My back room's bigger.
Well, Meridian South are certainly making a point of showing us just how wonderful these new studios are, especially by saying that "it cost millions of pounds" and "hundreds of people work there now". True as both statements may be, they're both dodging the point a bit!
Well, we've had our first Meridian Tonight from the new set, and I must say I do like it. Though you can tell that the room is very small compared to what they're used to. One of the most impressive things is how they have the sports presenter in front of the brightly-lit strips on the wall, it looks very classy.
Fred was having some very "Fred" moments tonight, which I found entertaining (though my sister found cringeworthy). My mother made a point when Fred said that they were going to be showing us their new "home" - she thought it was probably going to be a retirement home for him by now! I hope he sticks around for as long as possible before he retires, and the same applies to Debbie.
Meanwhile the sports presenter in the SE appeared to be broadcasting from the south-east newsroom... (I can but assume, as he wasn't in the Hampshire studio).

I think there was some sort of deal struck with the unions, as management originally wanted all the Meridian sports staff to be in Whiteley, with no sports specialists actually based in the south-east sub-region. ISTR that they climbed down.
That screen behind isnt real, from the side view, the image is the same contrast, and doesnt go duller, as real screens from the side does, so its just a picture!
