That's been like that since the graphics changes in March to co-incide with BBC News' move to NBH.

Anybody know what and where the tower at the end of the new So'ton titles is?

Its Clavell Tower in Dorset

Cheers.

So, the new So'ton titles images are:
1: Stonehenge
2: Swanage-Bournemouth car ferry.
3rd and 4th image both used up by person doing some sort of adrenaline watersport that I don't know the name for (jumping up in image 3, and landing back on water in image 4). Location could be anywhere in Britain, frankly.
5: Reading train station platform (I think).
6: People on grass in countryside (no idea where this is. New Forest? South Downs?) Again, location could be anywhere in Britain, frankly.
7: "Blade" tower in Reading
8: Clavell tower.

So, quite a lot of bias towards the north and west of the region. The Isle of Wight, for example, is now not represented at all. Unless ST is going to continue having a few different versions of the titles, with slightly different combinations of images in each?

I'm sure that the Reading train station image was also in the new Oxford sub-opt titles, despite Reading not being within the sub-region.

Almost all of the various versions of the previous So'ton titles were comprised of images from south of the Ridgeway only. The only exception was a version that included the Harwell donut as its 5th image (or 3rd image in the short edit) - hence, this version was used for pan-regional bulletins.

Anyone know what selection of images were used at lunchtime today? Or did they still use the old style titles, preserving unveiling the new ones until the 6:30?

I'll be interested to see how north-of-the-Ridgeway is represented (if at all) in pan-regional titles from now on.

Will anyone be able to record the short titles for South Today in the late bulletin please?

Here's how the rest of the programme looked including sting and close titles, which use a weird mix of the old close bed into new style audio.

2: Swanage-Bournemouth car ferry.

Well, you can achieve that route with it, but it's actually commonly known as the 'Sandbanks Chain Ferry'. The BBC national news are not using the correct pronunciation of Chesil Beach,
I'm glad Chris Evans (of all people) has flagged the comical incorrect pronunciation on his radio show this morning.

I don't think the end close sounds that bad, it might be that we're used to either or rather than both. The titles have had that beacon sound added too.

What is the incorrect pronunciation they're using? The one listed on Wikipedia seems obvious enough to me.

They were pronouncing it as 'Chiz-well', correct pronunciation is 'Chizzile'

Better than Sunday, when BBC South reporter Sarah Farmer was astoned and announced several times as Sarah Palmer.

It's also not just a straight pasting of the South East Today music on the main titles - you can hear a sample from the previous music most prominently at 0:32 in the above video. (SET link for comparison)

Odd choices all round. Although I do like the well-timed waterskier jump; at least they've bothered to utilise the title animations almost as originally conceived.

There is something odd about that end shot but I have no idea what makes it odd. Hmmm...

I quite like that little hint of the old theme, as it is at least in time with the rest of the music, and unlike the BBC Points West monstrosity, sounds good.

I've just taken a quick peep at Pants Worst on the iPlayer, to hear the theme of which you speak. It is indeed dire.

How long have they been using that? And why?

Any of the theme music variants currently used by other English Regions are all perfectly good, but what PW are using is so disjointed sounding. Yuk.
