From Grampian's programme statement for 2005:

We will re-launch North Tonight, seeking to build on our traditional strength and introduce new elements into the programme. We have invested heavily in new technology, which has seen us at the forefront of development within ITV. Now it is time to capitalise on that technology and seek to refresh North Tonight for the benefit of all our viewers.

Grampian TV intend to re-launch our nightly news programme, North Tonight, and will spend the first few months of 2005 assessing competition, planning change and thereafter implementing our proposals.

That 'someone' was me, when I stated (not hinted) the following:

Anyway - I've just looked at Grampian's Annual Report and see that they're planning to relaunch North Tonight soon - any news on that?
in the Reporting Scotland & Scotland Today thread

Anyway, I assume this will happen as SMG have published this as fact in their Annual Report of Grampian TV for 2004/05. Here's exactly what they said.

In 2005 we will be targeting a wide audience base, both geographically and demographically.

In line with other ITV licensees, we will introduce a longer, 13-minute lunchtime bulletin, as part of an integrated programme with ITV News.
Critical analysis of all our productions is central to improving our commissioning process and we will seek new markets for our output beyond its original regional transmission.

Grampian TV’s new satellite links truck gives us the ability to come live from any part of our transmission area. Using this technology significantly improves the quality of our product and provides viewers with an immediacy, which cannot be beaten. We also have access to a satellite dish operated by our regional correspondent in Shetland.

In 2005, we will take North Tonight on the road, to link parts of the programme from different parts of our transmission area. This will be combined with detailed reports from the particular area, giving our viewers comprehensive coverage of their locality.

We have invested heavily in new technology, which has seen us at the forefront of development within ITV. Now it is time to capitalise on that technology and seek to refresh North Tonight for the benefit of all our viewers.

We will develop a thirteen-minute lunchtime bulletin, which will form part of a new lunchtime schedule with our colleagues at ITV News.
Grampian TV will focus on our style and presentation, and on how we can offer more to our viewers through interactivity and our websites. We want our viewers to feel part of our programming. We will seek to better reflect the diverse nature of the area we live in, giving excellent coverage of our major towns and cities while adding to our extensive treatment of our rural areas.

Behind the scenes we will continue to explore new ways of getting material from our transmission area back to the headquarters in Aberdeen. We will seek to use broadband technology to allow us faster access to pictures from our regional correspondents.

Major world events will take place within the Grampian TV transmission area and we are already planning to cover them. The world’s presidents and prime ministers will be at Gleneagles for the G8 Summit in July 2005 and only a couple of weeks later the finest golfers in the world will be testing their skills at “the home of golf” when The Open Championship comes to St Andrews. We will also provide extensive daily reporting of The Island Games which take place in Shetland in the summer of 2005.
