I just can't help thinking that this

would be a whole lot better

It does make the 'right content...' a little more bareable.

The ITV News didn't have the slogan on the ITN end-board tonight?.
Weird.

Ooooh, they appear to have scrapped the slogan off the endcaps.

We just had the pink one at the end of the evening news. The itn "flew" on (i don't know how else to describe it) but no "right content, right now".

A new ITN endcap tonight just saying news programme of the year and not the right content right now. Also the logo did not appear to be as chopped off tonight as on the previous ones.

That's because there isn't one- as the show IS 4:3.

The 4:3 safe area:

so applied to the ITN endcap we get:

So watching digital on a 4:3 tv you'd only see (approximately) the stuff inside the middle box.

Not on digital it isn't, it's cropped to 14:9, as all the captures in this thread show.

I fully appreciate the 4:3 safe area, but isn't the ITV News picture originated from a 4:3 picture itself? In other words, it is not true 16:9 (or indeed 14:9). I am not sure how ITV News is transmitted on analogue - I guess 14:9 letterbox. If that's the case, then the safe area would not be as severe as for 4:3. But even if it were true FHA 16:9, not many broadcasters safe to 4:3 these days. Most are for 14:9. If people want to set their boxes up incorrectly on 4:3 centre-cut out then that's really their own problem!
