Right Content, Right Now?

Surely that must win the lamest slogan of the year award. Talking about 'content' is very much in the realms of industry jargon, and will mean sod all to the viewing public.

I agree that 'content' is probably industry jargon and it may well be a lame slogan, but thinking about it, how could it be mis interpreted by the viewing public?

I'm not saying it'll be misinterpreted, just that it'll mean nothing.

I'm afraid I can't help thinking of the right-wing magazine Right Now!

I hardly think that ITN's new logo now means that it's suddenly become overtly left or right wing.

I quite like the new logo, and my colleagues do aswell. Everything needs a sparkly revamp every few years. I'm just not entirely sure about the slogan - seems just a bit psuedo to me!

Since when was it acceptable for production companies to use their Production Captions as advertising banners?

I'm sure that every production company that displays "An X Production for Y" caption at the end of a programme has a corporate slogan, but I'm sure if Endemol, Celador, ITV Productions etc. tried to hijack what should be a pure and simple production credit into a 3 second advertisement for their organisation (as opposed to the programme just shown), then that production company would be told to remove it.

Why would ITN be exempt from this? Can we now expect a flood of lame corporate mission statements flashing around on the screen at the end of every show? Perhaps BBC shows will now end with

I agree this is slightly different since they are home-grown channels in their own right, but both the ITV News Channel did have and Sky News do have slogans on their end caps.

It would be nice if say 20% of the licence fee was paid to ITV / ITN. I don't see how on earth ITV expects to compete with the BBC when the Beeb get's 3.4bn and ITV 1.2bn per year.

I personally believe the licence fee is necessary, but the proceeds shouldn't be exclusive to the BBC. Other broadcasters deserve a slice of the cash, too.

ITN used to be just as, if not more respected than the BBC. It all went wrong due to years of massive cost cuts. Crying or Very sad

Never heard of it and I doubt the vast majority of other people have either!

And besides, we know that ITN's news on ITV1 has always spouted out that neo-right, Daily-Mail-esque-middle-class housewife-from-Berkshire crap which has no relevance in the real world. Mark Austin sneers and condescends down his nose at the viewers in a way only Jeremy Kyle can match.

I think you'll find ITN is more neo-left single mother from Peckham council estate crap.

I've only seen the C4 version - which though different I quite liked. I've always felt since the revamp that endcaps on C4 should be white with the producers/C4 logo on them.

The only thing I'd change on the ITN cap is put the C4 logo in the same colour as the ITN logo.

Yahoo! has ITN bulletins with short ITN stings - it seems to work OK.

Always interesting when anything about ITN comes up to think "What would the ITN News Channel look like?"
