The desk reminds me of WCVB's logo type desk. Unfortunately the designer's website is down but here's a link from Archive.org.

I wonder if the reasons behind moving 5 News to Lower Thames Street was more to do with feeding the former owner's ego than any real cost savings?
Clearly Viacom have invested more into the new contract with ITN, which has allowed for an excellent look presentation wise, but I still feel the editorial is going through the motions of tick box journalism to comply with Channel 5's licence.
VMPhil's video with the old music bed gave the lunchtime bulletin much needed punch to what is otherwise a lifeless bulletin.
Obviously, they've invested in some special reports for the relaunch, but I still feel it's not enough to distinguish itself from the pre 2005 era. The Sky News era has embedded itself into 5 News's psyche.

They started off a GiN using a CSO studio initially when ITN were awarded the contract by Richard Desmond.

Wasn't it literally a case of no room at the Inn at the time?

I think it probably was his ego. I wonder if he planned to integrate his 'news' teams much more closely.

Yes from the photos I have seen on tv live. The presenters part of the desk appears to be able to be height adjusted.
Only clear fault of the studio is the lighting, as can be seen Matt is practically standing in the dark.
The separate little curved desk seemed to be lower at 5 where it was at the same height during 5 news tonight.

Clearly there are some lighting issues on this set. They need to go back and reexamine their lighting design. In addition to the chin shadows at the desk. There are also those stand up issues. Not good. But clearly this is a case of design (the 5 logo desk+) over actual function (lack of chin lights).
