I can't see Matthew hosting both The Wright Stuff and the new "Five & Friends" programme.

If they want to stick with The Wright Stuff format then Richard Bacon could well take it over full time, then again they might just want to drop their morning schedule all together.

So it looks like the following have left:

Lara Lewington -replaced by Sky weather presenters
Alex Thomas
Asha Tanna
Kate Gerbeau?
Victoria Gatenby.

Watching the main bulletins at 5 & 7, it's starting to look threadbare.

So if the Lunchtime News goes they'll really just be the one bulletin a day at 5pm (you can't really count the planned 6.30pm edition as "news"). Shame.

Kate Gerbeau just had a baby- how does that work legally?!!!

Perhaps she's chosen to leave? In order to spend more time with her newborn?

Does seem odd though that so many presenters are off... I wonder how many would be going if a lower-profile presenter had replaced Kirsty Young?

Global TV in Cananda has only one national daily bulletin, Global National at 5.30 pm local time. Channel 5 would be no different from them then. And Global National is actually a decent bulletin. We might see some improverment, but I'm not holding my breath.

Maybe, but was Global TV News founded on the basis of having hourly updates throughout the day.

A bit of a conflict of interests here too where Sky News is concerned. While losing the Lunchtime and majority of the weekend bulletins may seem a loss, it does mean that at that time of the day there is an audience for news who might seek it elsewhere, and Sky News is probably the first place they'd look.

it's not as good as it was at 5pm. Used to be stylish with its own team...now its very generic, conventional and ordinary.

where do you get this things from? it's Five's decision to pay less for a reduced service.

It's a rapid decline and now Five are losing more bulletins which is hard to believe . Sad
There's been so many good phases of five news in the past ten years but this appears to be Fivenews entering a scraping the barrel stage.

I feel increasingly marginalised by the choices made in the past year or two by Five but if this magazine style show is no good then I will stop watching which would be an incredible change as I've been a regular viewer of their news shows in this decade.

Matthew Wright to host the new evening show:

It sounds as if Five are trying to emulate a little of the success of The One Show at 7pm (which has recently had a couple of shows with audiences of more than 6 million - against Emmerdale). Matthew Wright stood in for Adrian Chiles on The One Show on a couple of occasions when Adrian was at Euro 2008...

Sorry, but that's completely irrelevant.

Channel 4 was launched with only 1 news bulletin per weekday, plus 2 minute summaries at weekends. Global didn't have a network newscast until 2001 when they stareted airing the BCTV-produced bulletin "Canada Tonight" when they joined the network. They then started producing their own network bulletin later that year, called Global National.

Times change, stations change. Sky One used to air short 60 second news updates from Sky News. Now they no longer do.

I would love to see the updates return, but I'm not sure whether that will ever happen.
