New look East Midlands Today

No idea what to expect, but Dominic just mentioned it at the end of tonight's edition. I've always thought their presentation looks clean and professional, so I think this new look will be good!

Going by the general trend in other regions, I guess EMT will be adopting some variation of the BBC London theme with views around the region in the titles - perhaps the new Nottingham trams will feature. Hopefully the set will be something fairly original and not a poor copy of the national one.

The last time the regions attempted to produce something original, we ended up with the risible "trendy bar-cum-space station" look of Points West. If it's all the same, I'd rather see the likes of South East Today's homage to BBC ONE News - however inappropriate it may be for a local bulletin - than whatever garish nightmare some lunatic set designer would concoct if given a blank sheet of paper to start off with.

Whilst having a flick through the regions last night at 10.30, I noticed EMT were using a CSO backdrop of their studio. Is this a regular thing, or is this in preparation for the change?

I watched the video of the last EMT in the studio on their website and the did a look east with it. They came into the studio and took away the plasma screen, their chairs. Hope it looks good, cos usually MT would look excatly the same, so PLEASE LOOK GOOD!!!!

They are starting a 'local newspaper preview' (in the Newsnight mold) from this Wednesday. I've not seen that before on any other local news programmes, is it a first?

I believe various other regions do regular round-ups of the front pages of their regional papers.
