it is indeed completely shameful that one of the most important capital cities in the world can only muster up the quality of news that is London Tonight. Rather sad really.

I think part of the problem is that any significant news in London is likely to make the national news and there is an understandable reluctance to carry basically the same stories twice in an hour.
That, coupled with ITV's desire for a more "magazine" style to the programme, has taken it in a direction of which many traditionalists do not approve, (or at least so it would appear).

That said I believe the presenters and reporters to be very good, and technically the production standards are high, so only a little movement in the nature of the content is required.

I agree - they have all the ingredients for a really good programme. But somehow they don't *quite* carry it off.

I had been beginning to think that they were getting the news/lifestyle/showbiz balance a bit better, but then nonsense like Friday's David Ginola story (IMO) destroys the programme's credibility.

Yes, that wasn't a high point, but then I don't have any time for the Olympics bid. (This may be heresy but Paris is easy to get to, for anyone so inclined, and there are too many s*dding tourists in London anyway Smile).

That's not true, there are loads of stories that are London stories that aren't reported by the national news. There are also things that happen in London that aren't relevant to the London audience.

Basement. I remember the Election 2001 programme coming from a platform built into the atrium there - would be great if they were using that as the ITV News set!

I think the 2 main studios are away from the aitrium at the back of the building. The Channel 4,5 and London Tonight studios are essentially converted office space rather than a proper purpose-built studio
