The camera has to be on the other side of the atrium for the atrium shots, and this would require long cable runs and another studio camera. It's not really worth the effort for two (currently three including the closing shot) short bits. So the atrium shots are recorded with an ENG camera.

Why cant the Atirum Views be live? It's obvious it aint because there in no camera directley in from of the presenters, cant they just move the atrium camera over a litte?

You'll be able to watch London Tonight 24 hours a day, according to London's Evening Standard. It wasn't in the Standard's online edition, but it was mentioned on the Homechoice website - http://www.homechoice.co.uk/londontonight.html

watching that programme doesn't even cross my mind anymore. Utter waste of schedule space.

Is "famous Frenchman backs Paris Olympic bid" *really* lead story material?!
Surely a reporter of Ben Scotchbrook's calibre finds it embarrassing to do these phoney stories and manufactured diplomatic rows (complete with live from the French Embassy)?

Surprised he even took on the title of "London Life Correspondent". Not really a great show tonight, although Friday's are always the worst with their "film guide" and usual celeb chat. You can guarentee the news stops about 6.08 - that's if they've even got any news to run with.
The programme still amazes me, it seems to have several barrels to scrape, and they certainly haven't found the bottom.

Hopefully, if the itv takeover happens, someone will seriously beat up the London Tonight editor and send him on his way. As someone earlier mentioned, this programme is fine if you enjoy laughing at the absurdity of the 'London life' features and Alistair Stewart's constant ego-boosting. However, for serious news it is truely useless.
A decent editor should be appointed, all journalists should be reviewed, and only those with decent journalistic skills should be allowed to remain. Also, Anna Marie-Ashe and Paul Green should return to present the main programme; the fact that the best presenters were made redundant when the move happened is incredible.
Finally, and I realise very unlikely, London Tonight should return to LNN. ITN had its chance, and has destroyed the programme.

I should imagine that ITN are 'only following orders', as the old saying goes. The real blame should go to senior ITV management.
What they got a memo 'Can you make London Tonight rubbish?' I don't think so. I think it's more the new editor who obviously thinks the show's content is great.

He may be the programme editor, but his overall agenda is set for him by those higher up the ladder. Ultimately it is the ITV network bosses who decide what sort of programmes they want, and who appoint the people to carry out their wishes. If they didn't like what the editor was doing, he wouldn't last long.

Isn't the editor of London Tonight still the same editor from the original version of RI:SE? As I know that would explain alot really. London Tonight can do better, they're at ITN, they have the resources and they have the money, though still come out with a p*ss poor programme.
