It's Just like that horrible washed-out grainy view of Birmingham we have to put up with on Central News West....

Oh yeah - and with LT moving upto 200 Grays Inn Road - does anyone know what will become of the current studio?
Any chance that GMTV will move in, and get a studio with a decent backdrop?

In LT's current studio, is it an actual genuine window (as opposed to plasma/projection/CSO etc)?
I've always thought it looks real.

The "window" of the new studio/set definately looks fake (plasma) to me.
It seems a shame to lose a genuine view in favour of a fake one.
At least CNwest's view of Brum is just a large photograph (so it's not dark at night, or dull on a rainy day, etc), rather than pretending to be a real window. I wonder... if you were actually inside the CNwest studio, would the Brum photo backdrop not look as grainy as it does at home? (And it's still not as grainy as BBC regions' "windows" ).

Yes the window is real in the old set, but not the new one, because ITN is not near the Thames. To ne honest it seems like a step back from the current set.

I love the way people just slag something off on account of seeing two poor-quality pictures of the new set. How about waiting till Monday, to see how the new studio will be utilised, eh? The programme had half the audience of BBC LDN's, so clearly, a change won't hurt.

I don't know if it will matter that they are loosing the real window, because at this time of year, from pictures I've seen, the backdrop is just a sheet of black, and doesn't look that inviting. However, the set may look very good on a sunny day.

wouldnt it be better to cso it like the new ITV new studio, at least the quality would be better, as they could use the old virtual studio, opposite the old studio, as it can cope with moving camera angles?

what are you talking about? the backdrop is still good, with the traffic and lights of London behind it at night. I don;t want to see daylight or brightness during the nightly bulletin.

One thing I'll be missing is the desk...

It still looks modern even though it was brought in a few years back.

And there's no actual proof that the background to that picture is the set and not just a background used for the photoshoot.... which I suspect it is.
The lower audience for LT (and all ITV regional news programmes except for 1) is more because they're up against the mighty 6 o Clock News. In London it's not helped by the late commuter times. Although that doesn't excuse London Tonight being piss-poor for many years.

The background is a live shot from a new camera mounted at The London TV Studios. It's displayed on a plasma screen. Looks great in rehearsals. Not so sure how it will look though when it rains and the wiper switches on !!!
