True, I suppose the self admitance shows that those who work on it know what its purpose is and what they want to acheive.

Don't know about good tabloid...but I guess their idea was to get away from the crime agenda and try not to depress Londoners over 30 minutes...nice idea but not done in a completely great way.

Then again, you could argue that News of the World sells 3,000,000 copies a week by being a "good tabloid" - there's got to be something in it.

Difference being of course the News of the World has lots of money to spend, excellent reporters and lots of political and showbiz exclusives.

I think 'cheap tabloid' would be more accurate than 'good tabloid' in describing the ITN-produced version of London Tonight.

This award must surely be ironic in some strange way.

These regional RTS awards are very odd affairs. They're just one BBC programme vs one ITV programme and one award for an indie. The awards are just split down the middle, half each. Seems a bit of a farce really

What would be more interesting and valid would be a national regional awards; i.e. all the english regional programmes up for the same 10 or so awards.

No idea how London Tonight won best programme again. The programme was pretty dire (compared with what it was in it's heyday) before the relaunch. it's now dire, but it still wins

I'll bet I would be wasting my time if I "demanded" they had some real news content instead of celeb fillers and gossip.

Steve has presented short London Tonight bulletins before, but I think it's the first time he's done the main 6pm programme.
He's certainly presented on the News Channel in that studio on many occasions.
