No idea - although you'd be excused for not knowing this - BBC London TV actually covers a wider patch than BBC London 94.9 Radio...

And what is particuarly irritating, is although they do normally manage to cover a non-London story about once a week or so, they still assume we all live in London!

For example, items are introduced by phrases such as "whatever part of London you live", or such-and-such "across the capital" even when it's a trans-regional story, or Mark Bright last Friday pointing to us saying "we'll be finding out about Children in Need events organised by YOU - the Londoners!". They even once introduced a news item with the phrase "drinkers across the capital" which then turned out to be about something happening in Guildford!

Although Newsroom South East wasn't much better at covering news stories outside London at least they acknowledged our existence; the BBC London service is nothing short of an insult to those of us living in the home counties.

It does of course depend on what happens in the 'home counties' - as someone who knows Surrey quite well I know that not a lot of any great significance ever happens there!

There are stories from outside London on London News, bu the majority are those taken from the neighbouring regions, which leads to the strange thing of covering London and the regional overlap areas.... but nowhere in between.

Guildford has always been badly covered by TV - except for the 2 or so years that Thames had a news bureau there. Probably because it's well and truely in the patch of the London TV stations (the Guildford relay carries London and there's hills between them and recieving South regional TV) but is quite a trek from their bases. It's also only a fairly recent recipient of a BBC radio station.

Likewise ITV London has been using quite a bit of stuff from Meridian recently, especially on the daytime bulletins.

As a resident of Surrey I know not much happens round here! But the point I'm making here is that even though they do occasionally feature non-London stories, they still assume we are all live in London. I take great exception to being called a Londoner. When they run trans-regional stories they'll talk about, for example, "post offices across the capital" when they could at least say "post offices across the region".

Don't get me started on that! Considering it has to cover the whole of Sussex as well as Surrey and parts of Hampshire it's a regional not a local radio station!

London Tonight is coming live from Trafalgar Square this evening for the switching on of the Christmas tree lights.

Just hope that it won't be the top story! Laughing

Oh for the days when Alistair used to turn around to watch the christmas lights being switched on through the glass windows. Very Happy

Is this some sort of ironic award? If not, do any of the judges actually watch London Tonight or are they just profoundly deaf and blind?

According to the list it was for the 4 March programme, which was just after the relaunch.

Well after all the build-up, they missed the actual switching on of the lights whilst they were showing Tamzin Sylvester's interview with Holly Hunter...

They lost the link to Keir Simmons at City Hall

And a boast at the end...

It was fantastic!! Missing the main event and trying to read news of a murdered Chelsea man over a brass band playing Christmas carols. It was epic.

And definately the award is ironic. Although the agenda seemed slightly better back then...it was still bad but has just got worse in recent months. Wasm't too displeased with the agenda tonight actually...but still had its faults.

And you've got to love the story about tube commuters feeling more stress than fighter pilots. It made it to the Standard, London Tonight and The Times today...!
