Airconditioning broke down at GIR forcing shutdown of many systems, just about the only systems left on line were those to provide services to News at 2230 - thats why London Viewers were given meridian news and ITV London couldn't broadcast.
Fair enough, but why couldnt the ITV News Channel continue properly from the studio used in the ITV1 bulletins?

Tut, tut, tut!
They'd never have let that happen on the South Bank!
Which prompts an interesting question. How long before someone decides that the GIR studios aren't needed, and that the South Bank facility could handle it all? I know London Tonight has only just switched over to GIR, but if ITV plc gets full control of ITN, would it be long before the switch was made? If there's not enough space I'm sure they could move a few things out to Norwich or Manchester where property is cheaper. Just leave ITV Network Centre at GIR.
Channel 4 would be thrilled I'm sure, if ITV plc not only owned its news provider but produced it from its headquarters!

Crazy idea?
I don't think there is the room, The London TV Centre is pretty full - ITN need 3 studios, a large newsroom (for all 3 services) and then there's everything else that goes with a news operation such as library (they have a huge archive).
No idea where they'd get all the space from

That is perhaps the oddest decision over presenting so far! Though I'm sure her former position as David Beckham Correspondent will help her with some of the harder news items.

Does the library have to be in the same place as the studios and newsroom? I don't know the answer, I'm curious. If not, then it would seem to make sense to move it to some warehouse in the middle of Cheapville, rather than in Central London.
I don't watch London Tonight very often - to be brutally honest, I'm only watching it tonight for the lovely Tamzin.
Tamzin...
Anyway. What have they done to this programme? I'm currently watching some idiot at the Millennium Dome doing a quiz with London Cabbies, beeping their horns and flashing their lights. When did London Tonight turn into Carpark Catchphrase from a regional news programme?
Also, when did Alistair Stewart lose his professionalism? During his news roundup, the wrong pictures were shown so with his years of experience, he said: "These are the pictures for the British Airways story, so, errr, please ignore them for the moment".
