Interesting example of the integration between the London regional and national news today - Damon Green's report on St George's Day which aired on the national Lunchtime News was also used on the 3pm London Today bulletin.

Is there a unofficial timetable for when each ITV News studio is used on screen ?

The reason I ask is, that I caught a bit of Angela Rippon this morning, & she had a bench in the studio next to the desk.

Was she in the 'London' studio for her show, or was the bench put in the main studio anyway?

is there an easy way to tell which studio is used at which time on screen?

I know there is a CSO studio, which appears to be used around an hour or so before a main ITV1 / NC simulcast, when I presume the 'London' studio & the main studio are being used for rehersals.

Do the shorter 'London' programmes ever get transmitted from the CSO studio, to save upsetting NC transmissions, or do they automatically get 'their' studio whatever ?

All London Today/London Tonight bulletins come from the London News studio, next to the newsroom on the ground floor level.

Angela Rippon's show comes from the main ITV News studio, which has benches next to the desk (though these are removed for the 6.30 and 10.30 bulletins on ITV1)

The ITV News Channel usually uses the main studio - except for a period before each ITV1 bulletin.

This means the NC comes from the London News studio 1145-1230 and 2130-2230 weekdays.

The CSO is used 1730-1830 weekdays (obviously London Tonight has priority at this time)

At weekends the CSO is used by the NC before the early and late evening ITV1 bulletins.

The weekend lunchtime ITV1 summaries come from the CSO, and the News Channel remains in the main studio

Does anyone know who presented London Today at lunchtime?

London Tonight's roving reporter Keir Simmons was in his element today asking Londoners if they carry condoms around with them.

I know it was a serious story but stuff like this with that man and his voice than sends you asleep is just not necessary. Just give us the facts.

I was kind of hoping for Katie to come back at him with a smart arse comment along the lines of: " So Keir, do you carry Condoms around with you?" No doubt he would of answered with a "err......." first!

I sometimes think that Trisha gives us more serious news stuff than what London Tonight can cobble together nowadays.

Oh one last thing, What really gets my goat up is the weather! After the sting you get that annoying and stupid voice saying “London Weather……….sponsored by Topps Tiles” In a really annoying way! I wish they would be sponsored by someone else other than Topps tiles! How about………”London weather……….sponsored by Vagisil” Now that would be better, or even the annoying Tyne Tees and ITV News channel, “Budget!!” sponsor. (Is it still on Tyne Tees???)

Oh the voice that went "HTV Weather with BMI Baby.com, the airline with tiny fares' was once annoying. It has changed a little when it as re-recorded to be "ITV Wales weather.....bla bla" but its still not up to much.

I caught BBC London at 3.25pm and they had a Keir Simmons rip off, as their top story was a van loading outside some special store got a ticket, almost like the story last week on LT about the sleeping warden, but I would have thought that would have been his issue tonight, but condoms, I might watch the 10.50pm for that one.

As for the Weather, what was wrong with Warner Village sponsoring London Weather for the Weekend?

Press Gazette has an interview with Michael Jermey, the new head of regional news at the ITV News Group.

This is what he says about the new London Tonight:
Quote:
"What we’ve done there is injected a lot of fresh output - it’s a very different programme now," he says.

"We’ve moved it on and created a programme that is now relevant to 2004. It’s made in an imaginative, lively way, with some very high-quality journalism and it’s an interesting example of what could be done."

Oh yes - and my cock's a kipper.
I wonder if the viewing figures back up his claim.

I've noticed (and Alastair touched on this as well) that of all London Tonight's team of correspondents, Tamzin Sylvester is by far the most used to the extent where she's on every night!

Taking into consideration that all of her reports comprise of an interview as opposed to a Keir Simmonds report (where he just seems to think of 100 different ways to read us our rites), she's certainly earning her money.
