Katie clearly isn't comfortable with the imposed chumminess of it all, which is a shame because she was great on the old ITV Evening News. I get the impression that this is all a bit of a come down for her.

The chemistry between Alastair and Fiona Foster helped establish London Tonight when it launched in '93, Fiona was clearly not intimidated by Alastair and their timing was perfect.

And can anyone tell me WHY Anna-Maria Ashe is not on our screens anymore?

I disagree actually. Last week, when Jonathan Wills filled in for Alastair, Katie seemed perfectly at ease, enjoying herself to an extent. Maybe Alastair and Katie aren't suited as a partnership?

I do agree however, that her continuing appearances on the national ITV news make it seem rather odd when she appears, relaxed, on the London sofa.

I've only seen her with 'Willsy' on one occassion, and yes she did seem to be having a little more fun than with AS... to the extent that she called him 'Willsy'. The thing is, JW doesn't co-present the main bulletin very often so most of the time the devine Ms D seems like she doesn't want to be there, and you can't blame her... national to regional isn't usually the way it plays out is it?

I'm not sure to be honest, afterall I can remeber when she used to do LWT News. It's a bit unfair if they shoved here out of the job, unless she didn't want to work for ITN

Johnny,
I too remember her presenting LWT News, I thought she was great, a real pro with that special something. I love that outtake where she thinks she's rehearsing for the afternoon bulletin but they're actually broadcasting and she signs off "thanks for watching, see you later, love you" and blows a couple of kisses - priceless!

I guess we'll never know.

The London service is now sharing reporters with the News Channel too - Jason Farrell has been live at Paddington Green all morning for the NC, and now he's doing a live on London Today too.

I wouldn't have thought of it as being Katie demoted to London Tonight - at ITV News she was only ever a fill-in presenter anyway, which she still is. The Evening News is Mary's programme, Katie only really presented it when Mary was off or to lighten her load. Now Katie has her own show AND still gets to be a fill-in - best of both worlds I reckon.

Is it true that Location, Location, Location presenter Kirsty Allsop has joined as a Property Correspondent?

you're not wrong Centralfan Sad
I've been a huge fan of ITV and in particular ITN for as long as i care to remember. It saddens me that they're losing their grip, don't know how long I can go on defending them. Let's hope they sort out the teething problems and while they're about it lose the sponsorship for the weather, both national and regional... it really affects the credibility of the entire broadcast. I know it's commercial television and therefore has to be paid for but I firmly believe that ITV News on ITV shouldn't be about making money. Leave that to the ITV News Channel.
Blimey Centralfan... got me going on quite a rant there, thanks for that Very Happy

I never under the impression that centralfan345 was so inspiring...

To an extent - apart from the farcical weekend situation - LT does have it's own presenters. Katie is now a fill in it seems on ITV, whilst Alastair has his mid-morning NC programme. But, in the scheme of things, those are their secondary jobs. Lest we forget Wills, Emma Walden, Liz Wickham, Ronke Phillips.
