Don't count on it.
Wonder if this will lead to Granada getting a new style set when that moves next year?

I wonder if they'll just move the LT bench sofas into the ITV News set with a VR backdrop of the existing set, but then I can't see how they'll do that especially as the ITV News at 6.30 is straight afterwards.

I can't see how the Evening News won't be disrupted by the studio sharing- how would they record the bongs etc? Could the last 10 mins of London Tonight be pre-recorded before 6 and tacked on the end?
DK
If they were studio sharing, would they not do this for London Tonight?
Have the LT set to the side, pre-record the handover from LT to national (however they chose to do it) and pre-record the national bongs before the record the handover

Easy. They just have 2 sets in the studio, one at each end. Some cameras point at the national set and some at the London set. All that needs to happen at 6:30 is just to cut from one to the other and start the second programme.
It's similar to how Nationwide used to work in the 70's

Yeah thats what I thought, but whatever they do for a handover, how are other regions going to handover? They'll either go to netowork too early and get LT or go too late and miss the start of the national?

The studio just cuts to the national presenter at 18:29:59 to leave a nice clean opt in point.

This is a problem which every single live television programme broadcast in this country has to deal with. I don't think it'll suddenly cause chaos for ITV News for them to have to hit a certain opt-point.

At 18:29:59, it would be the 'hold' that the presenter does before the first bong?

Well technically London Tonight and ITV News do share studios for some bulletins at the moment. A little know fact is that say at lunchtimes or weekends when the presenter is the same as the presenter on the main network bulletin, the presenter stays exactly where he or she is, and the 'London Tonight' background is keyed behind them in a matter of seconds. Mike W is wrong - ITV Granada will be getting a new set when they move to Salford Quays so it could follow this. Although as it is all about cost ITV London may just use the main studios existing CSO capabilities.

Quite and the cut from one to the other is done by the playout area anyway so they are more than capable of going to a programme at a precise time.
