I'm guessing we cant view LT on their website anymore?

ITV London don't. some other ITV regions, Anglia for example post their full bulletins on their news timeline.

ITV London will now share a studio with ITV News at ITN’s Gray’s Inn Road headquarters and there will be greater co-operation in newsgathering. This is aimed at preventing duplication of reports and reducing the number of journalists and cameramen deployed in London.

With the likes of Julliet Bremner and Paul Brand reporting on London Tonight its no surprise that ITV London is growing closer to its national counterpart however replacing the studio and staff as well as cutting jobs isn't really going to help London Tonight.

The fact that the article says that ITV London will be in its new studio in October could suggest a national relaunch with the start of the ITV Newshour which hasn't been mentioned for a
Couple of months. No doubt the classic ITV London staff and some of its presenters will be the ones on the chopping block.

"A self-shooting model, which is already used in other parts of ITN such as 5 News, will also be introduced where appropriate." I presume this means short bulletins will be on the cheap from a screen with the main 6pm prog sharing the ITV News studio though how would this work with the ITV News at 6.30?

Will be interesting to see if it will share the exact same set or if they'll use a London green screen backdrop and black sofa.

I do find that ITV News an be very London-centric and it must regurgitate what has just been on London Tonight 10 minutes prior. A lot of the news stories aren't applicable to the rest of the UK so if they're going to be looking at duplication of reports then it can only be a good thing, but then it could, ironically, end up going completely the other way with the two shows almost being exactly the same.

Just on the subject of deployed staff and cameramen, I've never understood why under the notion of 'one ITV News', they still send their own reporters when adequate regional reporters have just covered it and will have better understanding/more indepth knowledge purely for already working in that area.

Sorry to be so blunt, but that's absolute rubbish. Most of the big news stories happen in London as a result of it being our capital and ITV News is no more London-biased than BBC News or Sky News. I've never seen anything from London Tonight recycled on the National News. Every day ITV News covers news stories from all over the UK. So I've no idea what you've been watching, but it's certainly not the ITV News that appears on my TV set.

Well like people suggested above, maybe the Newshour idea might launch in October with the same newscaster doing the national and London segments. However if this could mean that Al and Mary might me the main presenters but what about Nina? She could be u for the chop too, which would be a shame she must be pushing 10 years at ITN.

I get your point and thanks for correcting me- I never watch London Tonight because I have no need to and live in the North West. But there are often stories skewing towards the South West that have zero national significance, for example hosepipe ban or other weather stories when limited to that region.

I find that as a Granada viewer, the odd story is recycled on the national news so with the slant towards the South West I assumed it would be similar in terms of repeated stories.

Sad news, it could see the 6 presented by Mark Austin or Mary Nightingale, leaving no 'local' presenter, although it'll be easier to integrate LT and ITV News into one hour long programme.

My main concern is the reduction of regional journalism, it's improved a lot since the 2010 revamp and using ITV News reporters could lead to the same packages being used minutes later on the national bulletin, which could lead those London only newsworthy stories only being covered by BBC London News.

One difference that I find between ITV London and BBC LOndon is that BBC goes much more 'local' when finding stories whereas ITV cover the stories on London Tonight that have an impact on the national headlines, even now I feel that there should be a greater divide between the stories on the ITV National news and ITV London. The late London bulletin for example will not lead or even mention a story that has been covered on ITV's News at Ten.

There is no need to have the 10.30pm from a screen - they can do what they do at lunchtime using the main studio

If the 6pm can come from the main ITV News studio immediately before a national bulletin, then surely the weekends can as well?

In terms of presenters - are there many savings to be had? Daybreak and lates are part of the national overnight shift - that isn't going. Weekends are part of national daytimes - that isn't going. So unless the 6pm is integrated into a national shift, there doesn't seem much scope for savings. And I'm not so sure how practical it would be having a shift comprising a 6pm London, 6.30pm national and some days a 10pm national on a regular basis. Thats a lot of work that would be required preparing for 3 separate shows

Aren't the clues in the article - savings to come from the studio sharing and reporting?
