Just seen a wide shot as Nina talked to Glen Goodman. The studio looks sparse as it was designed for two presenters to sit on the bench. At least replace it with a chair.

I've been watching to see how this format works and I think its rather good its like a new stye of regional news however I don't think it will work everywhere . it seems to be a more serious edge and now less of a magazine programme and I think Nina's done well so far.

But they are now talking to James Blunt about his new single.

Indeed at least 7 minutes of padding with Mr Blunt and Tinie Tempah.
I really can't gel to Nina solo either. Charlene was much better last week.

And has been for a while
I love the voice-over, love the wide shot and the new screen in the studio. It is a much more improved programme IMO as it is more newsy and less presenter chit chat. But friendly and warm to the viewer I will make my mind up on that when I watch the Nina show again tomorrow at 6pm.
So Glen Goodman is now business correspondent.
Looks like they're going to have the specialist correspondents on the sofa so there's still a bit of studio interaction.

I tend to agree. I think this was a good first outing, and Nina held it together really well.
Perhaps there was a bit too much entertainment news with James Blunt + Tinie Tempah (I bet James was booked in advance, and they couldn’t cancel him at short notice). That said, Nina did ask him some fairly probing questions re the armed forces, the media not liking him and how pop stars have to embrace social media nowadays.
Besides, I think the coverage of the fire brigade strike was really thorough and extensive – I lost count of how many reports and lives they did, covering all aspects of the dispute.
I think interviewing correspondents in the studio is also a nice touch (similar to what they do on network news). It breaks up the monotony a bit, and means specialist correspondents will start to come into their own a lot more now. And I liked the voice over at the start too.
Early days, but I think a really good start.

BBC London News despite coming from a temporary studio and some technical problems won hands down with the delivery and content.
However I'll see how it goes after a week of the new format, although I would say the showbiz sticks out more like a sore thumb with the new look.

Yeah, I think that's a really good point: too much showbiz really will jar with the new format. But I'd be sad to see them drop all shobiz stories - entertainment is a fairly big part of London and life in the capital, but I think they should limit it to one item per bullein, and not feel compelled to include a showbiz story just for the sake of it.

Indeed it is, however BBC London News manage to tread a fine line between promoting a performer/movie and providing some local relevance where as London Tonight promotes new singles, films with no real connection to the city bar the fact it's on at the local Odeon.
There was one piece last week on LT regarding Take That's tour dates which was bordering on advertising.
LT under LNN's management managed to keep both hard news and showbiz/entertainment balanced. ITN since 2004 have never found that balance under every single editor.

I didn't catch the Take That coverage, although I know Lucy Cotter interviewed the band following their press conference. I think the Take That announcement was quite a big story though, as I'm sure I saw it covered extensively on other news programmes (including BBC News Channel and Sky News, both of whom carried the press conference live if I'm not mistaken). So definitely a story worthy of coverage on London Tonight, but I take your point about excessive promotion.
