Excellent ideas from BBC World and House. John Stapleton would make a fine choice, in the vein of Alastair Stewart or Frank Bough on LWT. The Kate Garraway idea is interesting, not least of all because I have this vague recollection of her working on London Today/Tonight in the mid-Nineties; it was between her stints at Meridian and BBC News, I think.

Its not going to happen they have just joined Daybreak and Kate is going to be on every morning do you realisticly think that they would present lunchtime news everyday and John is not there for the occasional programme he will most likley be giving exclusives and interviews and special reports . Also Nina wont just be axed like that she is a regular across 1:30,6:30 and 10 its not going to under go a massive change the whole of itv regions tend to move together and it needs some stability.

Don't be so sure on that front. There's concern already at how Daybreak hasn't made the impact that was hoped for and there have been discussions about how this could be rectified. And as both the reviewers in the press noted last week, along with some members on here, there was more than a whiff of resentment and 'forced amiability' between Bleakley, Chiles and Garraway on screen. To be fair, I can see no reason at all why it shouldn't be possible for somebody to present a morning show and do either a lunchtime or evening bulletin; it's a regular occurrence on this side of the Atlantic, the most notable examples being Harry Smith anchoring the Early Show and filling in on the CBS Evening News, or Charlie Gibson and Diane Sawyer alternating between Good Morning America and World News Tonight on ABC. I'm sure that John Stapleton and Kate Garraway are remunerated sufficiently enough and if they are only appearing on Daybreak once or twice a week for a few segments then I'm quite sure that there's enough time left in the week to do another broadcast.

But london tonight is produced by itn and daybreak by itv breakfast limted there different companys and why would they need her for daytime The itv news presenter fronts the lunch update.

I thought it might be helpful to translate Ginofish's last post:

"The problem is, London Tonight is produced by ITN and Daybreak by ITV Breakfast ltd. They are different companies so why would they need her for daytime? The ITV news presenter fronts the lunch update."

Your gesture is appreciated gratefully, field, but believe it or not I did manage to decode ginofish's ramblings.

And your point is...? The last time that I checked, Eamonn Holmes works for both Sky News and ITV; if it isn't too much of an issue for Rupert Murdoch to share one of the Sky News team with ITV, then I don't think that there would be too much of a problem for ITV and ITN to reach some form of agreement. Similarly, Adrian Chiles is contracted to work for both ITV Breakfast Ltd. and ITV Sport (unless you know something that the rest of us don't - is ITV Breakfast Ltd. responsible for the output of ITV Sport?) And now that I think about it, I'm sure that Alastair Stewart was contracted to anchor both London Tonight - when it was produced by LNN - and The Sunday Programme on GMTV. The latter may have been produced by LNN but I can't quite remember; regardless, prior to working on GMTV, Stewart presented 'Sunday' on BBC Radio 5 Live whilst still at London Tonight. I'm sure it wouldn't be all that difficult to come to some arrangement. After all, these are grown up individuals we're dealing with.

I actually think Kate Garraway and John Stapleton on London Tonight - perhaps with John making appearances on Daybreak and Kate becoming a regular face of Lunchtime bulletins - would be one of the best options going. They both come across as warm and have sparks about them - something Donal and (though I quite like her) Nina seem to lack.

Though it won't happen. And I'd like Ben to get the position.

I think John Stapleton is a great shout. He certainly has the gravitas for it.

Its most likely going to go to Ben Scotchbrook in wales lucy owens left it went to Andrea benefiled who was number 2, Lucy meacock stepped up to the main role , Ian Axton Also its itv's precedent They were always going to get someone big to replace Alistair permantly but now it has not worked and ben is popular in your region my money would be on him getting it.

Also Youre only going to get a few more years service from John if you go for Ben it helps keep that continuity London tonight has lacked recently .

Did anyone else notice that this morning on daybreak the clock was broken on the london updates. I am not sure if it had frozen or was 2 minutes slow, all I know that within the space of the london clock dissapearing off screen and the daybreak one reappering 2 minutes had passed, it only felt like a few seconds to me.

I wouldn't take that as confirmation that Ben will have the gig full time.
