Correct me if I'm wrong, but did Donal use to present the Sunday night 5Live investigative programme that former TalkSport overnight presenter Adrian Goldberg is taking over soon?

And thats what he should have been doing when employed!
Ben is the right man for the job, the majority of London news watchers whether they are predominately prone to watching BBC or ITV know who Ben is!

However I would be pleased if Matt returned or if they had a Ben/Geraint thing going on.

You say Ben had just become a dad, is that why Donal has presented the late bulletin then?

Yeah I agree, Ben is quite good really and as you say a recongnisable face.

The strange thing is that ITN must have thought Matt Teale was good as around the time he was on LT they had him present the Lunchtime News and Weekend News too quite a few times - I don't think I've seen Ben do so.

On the bit about Ben becoming a dad - I'm not 100% sure , but I think I remember reading it on here and perhaps he wanted less work (i.e not being on the late bulletin much) and not more work i.e LT 4/5 times a week.

Well we should find out his replacement in the next 2/3 weeks!

Charlene might think shes scared Donal away, as now that she is presenting he has decided to leave Wink lol

Charlene might think that she has scared Donal away seeing as he quits just as she starts presenting more regular Wink lol

I forgot about Charlene. Another solid presenter who can also be lively.

Ben and Charlene would be a better line-up than Nina and Donal.

Although Charlene has proved herself to be good, especially more so in the last couple of weeks, I still think she's a bit "average." Ok for GMTV/Lunchtime London bulleins and ITV Morning News, but not for the Main LT job.

Also some suggested earlier in the thread why not have 2 women presenters. Whilst it will never happen, I think it wouldn't be the worst idea - would get away from the stereotypical view that it as to be a man and a women.

Well some progamme will most definately do it soon enough, so ITN should be brave and do it on LT and test it out. Although I have to admit that the couple of times last year, when Katie & Julie presented the ITV Evening News together, it was rather strange , but it's proberbly because it's was a novelty as we hardly ever see it.

I don't know why the bosses have such a downer on Ben Scotchbrook. He's a very good anchor with an actual personality, who's much better than any of the presenters on BBC London.

So i bet joeky9 will be saying that he was still suited to the role, even though his left after less than 6 months in the job! Laughing

I'm not sure that ITN didn't want Ben to become lead anchor - I think around the same time Donal was announced as the new anchor I remember reading that Ben had just become a new Dad - so maybe that had something to do with it?

Also the Guardian article says "He will continue to work with the programme's producer, ITN, on a freelance basis as a journalist and presenter" which is what I was saying yesterday and a few others have said before , that he'd be better with a role like that - do occasional special investiagtion and undercover reports for ITV News/Tonight which his obviulsy good at!

As he said he was leaving for other commitments and an American project I would just conclude that he has gone to take up opportunities for bigger and better things. He'll be back, just you wait Very Happy

Ben Scotchbrook agreed with so many years experience should handle the job very well, I'm sure he didn't start off his first 6 months anchoring like a seasoned pro though.

I think Ben would be the ideal candidate to succeed Donal. His longevity and his consistantly good work on camera makes me think that he deserves the chance. ITV London viewers deserve some consistance and I think that Nina and Ben would do really well as the London Tonight anchors.

I Don't think there will be a same sex duo because Every Region has a main male and female .

Nina will most likley and stay in my view it needs some stability and nina has only recently joined LT and also has taken up Katies duties.

As for my choices for the jobs If I was to draw up a shortlist it would be :

G. Vincent - Current presenter of itv news and also a reporter he has filled in on the main show , has a good chemistry with Nina , well experienced and can continue to present on itv news.

A.Castle - About to finish presenting on GMTV also has ongoing projects with itv, has quite a good news background of the last decade.

A.Scott - has worked for london tonight in the past well experienced in both Journlism and Sports broadcasting has recently gone frelaunce and been back in itv.

Ben - he is long overdue a promotion and has presented the weekend news on occasion and also has worked with Nina .

Well whne people leave they always say something along the lines of " I'm off to pursue new projects."
There not gonna say something like "I quit becuase it didn't suit it me" etc.

Ben might have not started of as a seasoned pro - but his always been a competent presenter.

At least we agree on both points! Time will tell though and leaving lead anchor is a bit of a big leap, I'm sure it must have been worth it.
