Just wondering what people thought of the new close-up shots being used since Tuesday. Tonight Nina wanted to carry on talking to Donal about an item on Big Ben and it seemed a bit disjointed as there was a close-up of Donal.


I noticed that too - seem to be doing it on the few "in other news" stories. It works on the national news, but when their sat on the same sofa and the show is generally more laid back, it doesn't seeem to work - like tonight showed.


Although on Meridian Tonight it works...

Watched London Tonight on Sky this evening for the first time. Donal MacIntyre seems very out of place. Nina Hossain is as expected.

Why was Donal hired in the first place? It's quite strange.

Whilst his was good at his previous job ( undercover reporter) he just seems so out of depth and unnatural. He just isn't suited to this type of presenting.

The ony reason I can think of is that he was on Dancing On Ice and the bosses at London Tonight wanted a "celebrity name.

And whats even more stupid is that they got red of Matt Teale for Donal when he was 100x better - which most of been thought at ITV/ITN to let him present the National News. I haven't seen Donal present that yet! Oh god I hate to think of how bad it would be - Car and crash come to mind! Laughing

It is, hopefully Donal does what Matt did and they get a replacement for him. I have to say he is improving (if thats possible) and so is Nina. She is smiling more and laughing a tad more. She doesnt come accross as so heavy.

As you may know ITV Fixers is a scheme running across ITV Regions, a few weeks ago there was 'The Big Fix Live' presented by our favourite presenter Donal Wink

yeah I have seen the ITV Fixers on LT and also had heard about 'The Big Fix Live' but was on holiday, so I missed it - what a shame! Laughing

I think Donal brings some heavy weight journalist experience to the programme which the other presenters lack. This shows through in his interviews & the items he records such as the excellent piece on dolphins.

I have to say Charlene White has been very good on the 6pm bulletins recently

Then make him a special/ investigative correspondent for London Tonight and ITV News instead. His "heavy weight journalist experience" doesn't help him present.

I have to admit I didn't rate Charlene that much at first on the morning London GMTV News/ITV 5:30 News but she seems to be a lot better on a double headed bulletin, seems to bounce of her co-host and has a sense of humour.

Alexandra Hill is pregnant, looks like they will be needing some more cover for bulletins in the coming months Wink
