I don't see why London got away without having to have any merger changes back last year. Whilst there's a region (West Country) covering about 300 miles, London gets it's own news programme!!

Where could London Merge to, London is made by ITN and you could also ask why Wales and Granada didn't merge

It's not just London, it's London and some of the home counties. They mainly cover the area within the M25.
But there is 7, 8 million people living within the M25. 4 million live in the West Country. Shockingly Central Tonight now serves a potential audience of 9,400,000.

yep, but, surely The West Country Tonight covers a bigger area!! Lands End to Gloucester!! The news coverage is not that good for Devon & Cornwall as it's based in Bristol!!

The Greater London area population is around 8.3 million, and the ITV London area covers a lot more than Greater London - so I wouldn't be surprised if the London Tonight region was over 9million as well.

Also, you didn't include the ITV West region. So The West Country Tonight covers 3.8 million viewers, but still, it's probably (now) the biggest region.
