A nice ending with the old LT end theme too!

Yes that piece of music is absolutely stunning. I don't suppose anyone has it do they?

Sadly, I don't, although I'd like to get hold of a clean copy. That is a fantastic piece of music, and puts the current one to shame. The one in that clip is the longest version I have seen on the net.

What the **** is happening with this programme? Just a few weeks ago we had presenter combinations comprising of Alastair, Katie, Alex and Ben, all competent, friendly, engaging and, in Alastair's case particularly, excellent newsreaders. I'm willing to give Matt Teale a chance in his new role and believe he too can be added to that list eventually, but while in the early stages he needs a competent, friendly, engaging and experienced co-presenter.

So why the hell am I witnessing Matt Teale and Lucy Cotter presenting the programme for the second, possibly third, time this week?! I've said it before and don't want to be seen to have a personal vendetta against the girl because she's clearly a lovely person but she simply isn't up to the job of presenting the capital's flagship news programme. What makes it EVEN more frustrating is that there is absolutely no reason whatsoever why Alex Hyndman can't do it instead.

The bosses need to understand that if they want to keep the viewers then the gravitas needs to stay, losing Alastair is a big enough blow, so putting people like Lucy Cotter on while Alex Hyndman is probably bored playing with her nails at home is a real mistake.

Damn right!, Lucy is so annoying her laugh and her voice. She just isnt the best program to present the program. There was no reason whatsoever for Alex to leave, she could of covered Katie on Friday's as a permanent roll and like today, yesterday and Monday could of presented then. Alex may come back in the future but for the moment I think it is just the occasional Saturday morning bulletin that she will be presenting.

How do you know it wasn't Alex's wish to leave London Tonight? Presenters aren't just pawns in the rota scheduler's grand plans. They might have their own wishes, desires and other commitments. They also have contracts which stipulate how many hours and which programmes they work on. I know it may come as a shock to some members!

Her contract was only for 9 months judging as that was how long she was there on London Tonight. But due to the fact that she is only presenting 1 or 2 night bulletins must some stab in the back for her. I guess she had the choice of staying on ITV and she took it even though her presenting times are not that great. So why cant Alex return? She is not presenting anywhere else and there was no reason for her to go from LT.

Is it a cost thing? Using a member of permanent staff won't cost anything extra (so long as they don't need to be replaced) compared to either hiring someone else, or paying a freelancer

What is it with UK presenters being weird? Something in the water? Alistair, Kay Burley, Richard Quest are all proponents of this style. That woman seemed relieved not to have to sit next to him! He's sort of lost it since News at Ten! There was nothing in that farewell vid about London, about their reporting, about the news... there was sudden leaning, sex-on-stick comments, half joke-not joke about Anna Maria-Ashe and fluff about co-anchors. They seem a little lost.

I've never got why they ITV doesn't go harder at 6. 6pm seems to have been a black hole for them forever. Why haven't they turned to hard news? Elsewhere, 6pm local (based) news is the biggest drawcard of the night.

I know the BBC has been a huge presence (pain in the neck) dominating at 6 with its national news. But I've always thought that ITV just didn't get 6pm, that their fluffy attitude wasn't doing them any favors. Look at any market in the US and they could see, basically, if it bleeds, it leads at 6 and keep serving that up. Sofas and guests would be the last thing to work, it seems to me. I know it's more complex than that but a 6pm build around hard news/strong journalism does business in most places.

It could be as simple as not liking working at London Tonight. Apparently she will still do bits for ITV National News so it must have been her own decision to leave, I'm sure they would have kept her on.

I don't see the fuss about Lucy either. She is no brilliant newsreader but when she presented for Granada I thought she came across really well and was competent enough to read the autocue.

I've heard a rumour that Nina might be becoming more prominent on London Tonight in the future.
