I think it's a shame that Alastair is leaving London Tonight after 16 years.

Yeah, as said in the ITV News thread it is a shame.

Just been watching some clips of Matt Teale presenting Setanta Sports News and Central Tonight, he seems an alright guy although I doubt he will be as good as Al. With Alistair on London Tonight there is bantar and laughter with him on every program be that him presenting with Katie, Alex or Lucy. With him on the EN I doubt he will be having jokes with Mary because it is national news. And I bet Ben must be gutted, I mean why not give the job to him he has been at ITN for what 15 years now and he is so familiar to viewers. Him and Alex get on well as well with Katie.

Like I said in the ITV news thread, mabye it'll be more of a shared role , like GMTV - they are equal presenters.
( there's only been the MG article - no proper word from ITN yet)
I agree with you, there is always banter when Alastair is on LT, and like you said It won't happen with Mary , except obviously for the "and finally " bit.

Totally agree. But then like all of ITV regional news, it's a shadow of its former self. I've been travelling around the country for work these last few week and have watched at least four regional services. From Meridian, Granada, Central and Anglia they all look lifeless, dull and drab! The 'corporate' ITV news look with that incredibly uncomfortable sofa (I know because I used to sit on it) and the limitless number of young girlies now acting as 'so-called' correspondents makes the service lack any credibility.
I've been reading that Ulster TV has just recently re-introduced 'in-vision' presentation continuity. How refreshing!
A channel that has a bit of gusto and is trying to hang onto its regionality. Well done them!!

As for the regional news service ITV are attempting to offer, it's a real pity they've lost the touch.
I don't blame Alastair for moving on; he'll probably get much more fun tending to his garden at home. He'll be missed, a REAL pro!

You do realise that he is moving to the Evening News

Well hit me sideways with an ITV news sofa!!! ... I didn't realise that....different to the story I'd heard. If it's true - great. Thanks for putting me in the picture.

Well he's certainly not leaving ITN - who also produce the London regional news programmes. He's already a regular face on ITV national news and his leaving London Tonight will only make him more of a prominent face on that service.

Does any Forumers in the know know why it is that during the ITV LONDON regional opt - outs on GMTV that the GMTV News logo / clock does not appear on screen ?

All other regions (with the exception of non ITV plc ones) are participating in showing the News logo / clock aren't they ?

Wonder why ITV LONDON have not had their orders from GMTV Management in London to show these during opt - outs the same as when at Christmas time when they are told they want a Christmas Tree on display in the Studio during the GMTV Early Morning Bulletins even if they don't have a tree on display during the ITV Regional Bulletins if you know what I mean

For some reason ITV London always has to be different. I think it is because it is run by ITN. There name straps are different from other regions, The way they show sporting results or statements is different ie the graphics they use. The way there main titles run between the music is different.

I think it may also be to do with the name, you can have Granada News, Border & North East News, Calendar News, Central News, Meridian News, Anglia News, Wales News, West Country News, but you can't have London News as that is what the BBC call there programme. Therefore inserting the graphic would be pointless.

They would use London Today. And as I have already pointed out ITV London have always been different and it is probably because of it being run by ITN
