Nice to know LT also covers Hollywood, by sending the Biz correspondent to cover the Oscars.

They aren't the only ITV Region, Granada have sent over their Showbiz reporter over there aswell, mainly because of Danny Boyle, as he's from Bury, so it's half an excuse.

It's not uncommon, whenever Ricky Hatton fights in Vegas, they always send at least one reporter over there.

Well it's nice to see that despite the numerous job losses & cut backs in the other regions, London & Granada still have money to burn... Rolling Eyes

Why has everyone else now got massive regions except for Granada and London? Why should they be exempt? I might understand London being the only one, because its the capital but not Granada.

Was Granada not already a massive region?

And does it not still cover a bigger population than some of the new combined regions?

Well, they are getting the Isle of Man too. I do think if Border didn't cover the Scottish Borders as well then Border may have been incorporated into Granada rather than Tyne Tees.

I would imagine merging London and Meridian would probably be amongst the next moves in the pipelines if the regions were to be reduced any further.

Granada, London and Wales have no sub-regions unlike the others with the exception of ITV West which was the only region with no sub-region to be affected as it merged with Westcountry.

London and Granada also cover large metropolitan areas.

Whilst London & Granada both cover huge populations their actual physical areas are far smaller than the other regions, that is why other regions have (or should I say had) sub regions...
But now the new "Mega-Meridian" region is the biggest (in terms of population served) after London & we are now getting an extremely diluted service with news from hundreds of miles away... Rolling Eyes
It would have made more sense, in my opinion, to have merged the Meridian East region with London, Thames Valley with ITV West & Meridian South with Westcountry as these areas have quite big overlaps anyway...

Granada is a big region, but not as big as North West Tonight's regional output.

Granada, only goes as far as Barrow(or barrow in furness), NWT goes up to the lake district.

Granada is quite a large region as it is covering Greater Manchester, Merseyside, Cheshire, Lancashire and parts of North Wales.

I think they mean the area the Granada franchise is *contracted* to serve, rather than the number of viewers who can actually receive it.

As for the suggestion that ITV Westcountry should've joined with ITV Meridian - Shocked - I'm not sure what you were thinking of there, Nate!

Not the entire Meridian Region, just the "south" area... It would have been better for a lot of viewers here in Dorset... Much of the Meridian South region is in the old area of Wessex. (Only the Rowridge area though, Midhurst could have gone to Meridian South East..) So you would be left with the rest of Dorset, a chunk of Wiltshire & southern Hampshire (& I.O.W) joining Westcountry, which is better than Gloucestershire etc.. Laughing
