More importantly, I hope as part of his remit improves ITV News London's output. Geoff has made the most of using limited resources over at 5 News to maintain a fast flowing 5 News at 5, where as ITV News London is in a sea of padding since the last set of redundancies.
He could bring an element of NewsTalk Live to the second half of the 6 using it as a focus for London debate instead of inane pointless padding with guests just discussing what's been reported on in the previous package.

Hmm, interesting choice. I really thought Jonathan Munro would get the gig - he's proved to be brilliant in the role of acting editor over the years at ITV News. Wonder if he will remain deputy editor...?
Hopefully Geoff Hill will keep everything on track and avoid that overly human-interest crap they got carried away with a few years ago.

If Channel 5 News is anything to go by, then an appropiate balance should be acheived

I agree. I think Channel 5 News is a better operation than it's given credit for. Channel 5 is no longer regarded with the same disdain it once was, and I think part of that is because its news output has strongly picked up. On the other hand, when ITV News broke away from the ITN branding, it had a tendency to drift more towards so-called 'tabloid' news. In the last few years, however, I think it's started to take news more seriously, one example being the 'proper' reinstatement of News at Ten.

Great news. I know Geoff will steer ITV News in the right direction. Also, sorry if I am being thick, but will he have a say in who presents the odd bulletin?

I regard Channel 5 with more disdain than I used to - on the (very) rare occasion I've watched the news on Channel 5, it's seemed perfectly agreeable to me, but it's done nothing to get me to watch the channel.

I would have prefered Johnathan Munro to get the job, the quality has gone up significantly on both occasions he's been covering the editorial role. By contrast, Geoff Hill has done nothing to make the Channel 5 News stand-out or even stand-up in comparison to what it was under Sky News. He made it no worse, but he hasn't made it significantly better either.
