In all fairness though, I don't mind Neil being on if this happening. I just hope this route doesn't lose him credibility.

How old is the person who runs that site? 12?

Are we sure that's not his IQ? But I think that would be an overestimation too. That article is beyond childish.

It's how the news is reported that concerns Ofcom, not what news is covered and running order etc.

Yeah, I know. My point still stands, though.

I don't see this channel ever launching but the fact that RT has managed to operate in the UK market for several years with only a few issues with OFCOM shows it is entirely possible to launch a biased news channel within the UK framework.

I guess a six figure fine and nearly losing their licence isn't that much of an issue.

Considering they're still on air and still doing it, it clearly wasn't.

Press TV weren't as lucky though.

How would the economics of a channel like this work? Murdoch/News UK have very deep pockets, and if it was part of something else where revenue could be generated, then they could afford to run it as a loss leader. (In the same way that Sky News has always been ran and to a lesser extent Times Radio.)

How would a service like this expect to be funded and to turn a profit if it isn’t affiliated to another service? Whilst it wouldn’t be something I’d watch as I don’t subscribe to those political views, it’s hard to disagree that there’s a gap in the market for something like that to exist on British TV. It just takes some persuasion to get people away from LBC/TalkRadio/Times Radio to their TV.

As someone has put earlier in the thread they’d like to see a british BFM TV. It’s amazing a country like France has so many news channels, when the UK only had two fully UK based news channels. I think the gap in the market is there, it’s just the economics.

TV Forum is many things, but mainstream media is an overkill. What a pleasant character.

I don't think this place is very mainstream at all!

From what I have watched with CNN they are very Democrat leaning. They do spend a lot of time giving coverage to Trump but doing it in a very critical angle.

Being critical of Trump doesn't make you a Democrat.

Exactly that. There are Republicans who are just if not even more against Trump than the Dems. WABC Radio in New York, a Conservative talk station that has the likes of Brian Kilmeade syndicated from Fox News's radio division have local presenters who are against the president, regardless of the editorial agenda, this despite them being Republican supporters. This shows that not all Republican media is straight down the line for Trump.

As for the immature ramblings of the Politicalite writer, looks like he wants a job on the new partisan channel.

Is "mainstream media luvvie" going to go on your CV?

I can't really see how the economics of this would stack up, without it being a money pit for Murdoch. It's not cheap to make telly. Or rather it is, but not if you want it to look half-decent and have engaging contributors - which you need if you want enough people to watch for long enough to bring in decent advertising money.

That said, this is the company that spent half a billion dollars on MySpace, so maybe the business plan is irrelevant.
