Nick Ferrari springs to mind as someone who could join this channel as one of the opinion presenters. He was one of the panelists on The Pledge where he was allowed that gig in addition to his main job on LBC.

Nigel Farage already mentioned could do a phone-in, which he's more than capable of presenting and took calls from pro Europeans on LBC which would provide balance.

I wouldn't be surprised if Richard Tice is offered a slot with another opinion show, same for the Brexit Party's Alexandra Phillips who is also media savvy. (RT has former politicians including George Galloway, Alex Salmond and Tasmina Ahmed-Sheikh).

Obviously it's early days yet, but they could go down the Sky News Australia route, impartial by day with a skew towards the right-wing with the opinion shows on in the evening during prime time.

Nick Ferrari was Sky News' first editor when it launched in 1989. And his boss was Andrew Neil.

I had mearly forgotten about the Richard Littlejohn show on Sky News.I seem to remember that was his second Sky News show. Iirc the other one was at 8pm and slot shared with "3D" a show Kate Silverton was a presenter on.

'We seem to have an earlier recording there!' Laughing

Reminds me of another Littlejohn clip from LWT where the show was interrupted by shall we say something more (ahem!) unusual.

Iain Dale has mentioned on his For The Many Podcast that Robbie Gibb is also part of the launch team.

Robbie Gibb recently moaned on Twitter that Lewis Goodall wasn't being impartial. Hmm...?

It's because Lewis Goodall wrote a piece for the New Statesman, which is a more left-leaning magazine, on the exams fiasco and was accused of bias for simply doing a guest piece in there. I haven't read it fully but as long as it provides an accurate assessment and analysis of the events then I don't see a problem but I think there is also some policy I believe at the BBC where you normally can't write for other magazine or publications?

Robbie Gibb seems to have a specific beef with Lewis Goodall and Newsnight. It's not the first time he's had a go at Lewis on Twitter and he has been fairly patronising towards him:

According to one report, he also texted the editor of Newsnight at 5am to complain about Emily Maitlis' opening monologue on COVID-19:

Sir Robbie Gibb, Theresa May’s former communications chief, texted the programme’s editor, Esmé Wren, at 5am to complain about its alleged bias.

He's hardly in a position to lecture about impartiality when he went straight from being a BBC editor to Theresa May's Director Of Communications. It also felt like the BBC had much easier access to Theresa May when she was PM than ITV or Sky. Nor does he seem to be in a position to lecture people who go out in to the field and do original investigative journalism.

Interesting, not able to view, but Andrew Neil is about to go on 'This Morning'. Might be worth a view.

It looks like "GB News" is indeed a separate project, possibly involving Discovery, to a potential channel from News UK.

Quote:
Rival efforts are under way to launch a Fox News-style opinionated current affairs TV station in Britain to counter the BBC.

One group is promising a news channel “distinctly different from the out-of-touch incumbents” and has already been awarded a licence to broadcast by the media regulator, Ofcom, under the name “GB News”. Its founder has said the BBC is a “disgrace” that “is bad for Britain on so many levels” and “needs to be broken up”.

A rival project is being devised in the headquarters of Rupert Murdoch’s British media empire by the former Fox News executive David Rhodes, although it is unclear whether it will result in a traditional TV channel or be online-only.

I really can't imagine discovery being involved with a venture like that.

The article also mentions that David Rhodes who used to be the executive at Fox News is also involved in the project.
