I agree, it is excellent. He's used the pre-Dec. 2003 World bed. I think News 24 should use something similar to this, and bring the TOTH sequence back to basics, 30 seconds max of headlines over a fast-paced bed. This is what grabs a viewer's attention, and keeps them watching, not someone standing in front of a screen monotonously announcing a seemingly endless list of what's coming up in the next hour.
Stuff like that can be left until after the main story. A fast paced startup sequence would go with this countdown much better than what N24 are currently doing
Or the Bflat current World bed?
I'm not entirely sure, to be honest, but it has got the vamp with that extra bit added on at the start (hope I'm explaining myself properly)
When I say vamp, I mean the punctuation that plays before each headline, and not the bed that plays in the background. Am I right in saying this. All these terms confuse me
Vamp/Bed = Headline music
Thunderclap/Bong = Punctuation between headlines
Ah, thank you. Well, in summary, the vamp Bail used has the lengthened thunderclap that BBC World used pre-Dec 2003. Sorry for all the confusion. Anyway it would be great if N24 used something similar to it

Bail - Your remix of the N24 countdown past and present is excellent - the End Vamp that you added to it, is that an old 24 or World vamp or is it one you created yourself ?

The longest that I have ever seen live was 87 seconds on the 1999 - 2003 UCL. My that must have been one massive gallery mess.
By the time I got to the capture I only managed the last 56 seconds I think it is.
I saw a 72 on the 2003 - 2005 one last year. Didn't get to the computer in time on that one.
I'm liking the music to the new one, I think that the graphics will grow, and are more "on demand" and hard hitting than the 2003 - 2005 one.
What happened with the midnight play, I missed it? Did we get a nighttime version?

yep, we had a night time one at 11 as well. I think the only nightime scene in it was TV Centre, te rest is normal day time shots.

Oh that's a bit of a downer, they could have great thigns going on with international night scenes and the red ribbons.
I call it UCL through force of habit.
Stands for Universal Counting Leader. Best example is on movie reels where you have the 10 second count down or pre transission when you have the 10 seconds with 8 blips and a 2 second silent prompt.

Go on then, while I'm contributing to here
Wonder if anyone'll be able to smuggle out the full old ones, I still love those, I'm sure they're highly prized and guarded though!
Also, it does seem to stop suddenly at 00:00 (frames / seconds, no flaming please
). The overnight one went to a black screen. I guess they're not quite used to the new one, as the old one used to have some movement after 00 and freeze on the image if necessary. This just cuts to black, then a startled presenter that's being shouted 'you're on' from the gallery. They'll get used to it eventually. Mucho impressed with it all!

Here's some more caps from the 1am countdown.

I'm surprised at how well liked this is: I saw it tonight and thought, "Oh my God, what have they done?"
Once you have heard a 30 second countdown, the music will grow on you. We have only been hearing 10 to 15 second countdowns all day and they don't do it justice at all.
My only fear is that with these countdowns I think after a week or so, we'll all be tired of seeing nothing but reporters, reporters, reporters, all over the place. At least with the other countdowns there was a bit of variation. But we'll just have to grin and bear them now.
I always thought with the previous countdowns it was almost impossible to get bored no matter how long it was onscreen for - there was always something happening. But these ... I'm not too sure - they're trying to tell little stories and I'm not sure if that's possible on a device such as a countdown.
